How Secret Govt Accounts Were Used To Pay For Baby Items

The unlawful five secret accounts operated by the then Food & Drugs Board (FDB � now FDA) between 2002-2006 had total lodgement of GH7.8m and US$640,000. These accounts In Spite Of Objections by the Controller and Accountant General's Department were opened and operated by the management headed by Mr. Emmanuel Agyarko, now New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon in the Greater Accra Region. It has now emerged that a former Head of Accounts of the FDB (FDA), Ms Genevieve Nelson, between 2005 and 2006, transferred a total of US $11,000 (eleven thousand US dollars) to a friend in the United States. When the friend was questioned, she said the amounts were in payment of a personal debt Ms. Nelson owed her. She had brought personal items like baby items and fire fighting equipment for Ms. Nelson. The report quoted the friend as saying that she was surprised that Ms. Nelson �used state resources� to pay for a purely personal debt owed her.
