With the year still ripe and government getting prepared to change from the first gear to the second gear as President John Dramani Mahama promised last year, critics of the ruling National Democratic Congress and political figures say they are yet to experience the new wind of expectancy.
Several dramatic events retrospectively took place last year, thereby earning a column in the history books of the nation.
Leaders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) led by their 2012 Presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo, his Running mate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and National Chairman, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey challenged the electoral results declared by the Electoral Commission and took legal action to somehow overturn the legitimacy of the incumbent President.
After eight months of legal battle between Counsels for the petitioners and respondents, the nine-member panel presided over by Justice William Atuguba at the Supreme Court which sat on the NPP�s election petition, reaffirm President John Mahama as legally elected President.
Making observations about the performance of President Mahama and his government, the Managing Editor of the Daily Searchlight, Ken Kuranchie has expressed doubts about any initiatives and interventions adopted by the government to salvage the economy this year.
Speaking on Oman FM's political analysis programme, Ken Kuranchie requested the ruling party officials to express their gratitude to the NPP's 2012 flagbearer for opting to seek justice in the law court following his discovery of irregularities during the 2012 general elections.
According to him, Nana Addo's alternative was the best and positively imparted on the nation. He asked the NDC government to be thankful to him (Nana Addo) for his quest to delegitimize President Mahama in the Supreme Court.
Expounding further, he cited some failures of the government stating its inability to avert the high rate of corruption that has since been the bane of the country and was therefore of a strong view that the Mahama-led government have lost control in administering the affairs of the nation.
He therefore stressed the government should �thank Akufo-Addo for going to court because the alternative would have been much worse� if he had not sought justice on legal basis.
