CJ Calls For Continued Support From Judiciary

The Chief Justice (CJ), Mrs Georgina Theodora Wood, has urged members of the judiciary to continue to give her the needed support during the remaining period of her mandate. She said with almost five years to the end of her tenure she required continued support and co-operation from judges and other judicial staff towards a successful end of her mandate with the expectation of making a mark in Ghanas judicial system. Mrs Wood made the call in Accra Saturday when the Volta Hall Alumnae Association held a dinner in her honour at the Great Hall of the University of Ghana, Legon. The event was in recognition of the honour the CJ had brought to herself, the association and the many feats she had chalked during her legal career. The CJ who expressed appreciation for the great support she had enjoyed from judges coupled with other good-will messages received from the general public remarked that God has given me a task which must be done and done well. The well attended function brought together illustrious sons and daughters of Ghana including Prof. Akilapkpa Sawyer, a former member of the Council of State, Prof. Florence Abena Dolphine, a former Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Madam Esi Sutherland Addy, a renowned stateswoman, Ms Esther Ofori, National Treasurer of the New Patriotic Party and Mrs Doreen Owusu-Fianko, the Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company. Mrs Wood who was full of excitement expressed her gratitude to relations, colleagues and friends for being part of her life as well as a source of encouragement and recalled the doctorate degree the university conferred on her which she described as a source of motivation. This occasion brings back fond memories of my days in Volta Hall and time at the Law Faculty. It reminds me of what Legon has done over time to spur me on in my career, the Chief Justice said. A brother of the Chief Justice Dr Alfred Lutterodt, earlier in his introductory remarks, recalled fond memories of her sister and described her as patient, compassionate, kind, humble and very decisive. He noted that the CJ has had 40 uninterrupted years of an unblemished record on the bench and urged her to continue to obey St Pauls advice and victory shall forever be hers while urging her to continue to remain steadfast. The President of the Volta Hall Alumnae Association, Prof. Mrs Irene K. Odotei, earlier in her welcoming remarks said Mrs Wood in 1966 was the only woman among a team of 40 to join the police force as legal adviser to the police service. She lauded her for moving through the ranks to become what she was today for which reason she ought to be honoured and celebrated.
