President Mahama Praises Electoral Commission

President John Dramani Mahama has showered praises on the Electoral Commission for the feat it has chopped in the past and present in its organization of elections in the country. Despite the petition by the three; Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Flagbearer of the NPP; Dr. Mahamud Bawumia, Vice-Presidential candidate of the NPP and Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, National Chairman of the NPP, seeking to challenge the declaration of the President as the winner of the 2012 general elections by pointing out some irregularities. Mr. Speaker our recent Presidential and Parliamentary elections have been adjudged by both domestic and international observers as by far the most credible, transparent, free and fair since 1992, he stated, adding that; the electoral commission must take much of the credit for this feat. According to the President; the nation had come a long way since constitutional rule started in 1992. Mr. Speaker, the Electoral Commission must take much of the credit for this feat, since our return to constitutional rule in 1992, the EC has organized six successful elections since 1992. They have conferred victory where victory was due without fear or favour, they did this in the critical periods of 2000, 2008 and again in 2012. Our electoral commission has earned in the process an enviable reputation as arguable one of the best electoral institutions on the African continent, he said. In delivering his maiden state of the nations address in accordance with Article 67 of the 1992 constitution, President Mahama opened his speech with a tribute to all members of Parliament and extended to them a warm welcome of partnership in shaping the destiny of our beloved Nation.
