Okyehene Responds: There Was No Hidden Agenda Behind Prez Mahama's Visit

Lawyer Kwame Acheampong Boateng, a legal counsel for the Okyehene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin II, has expressed surprise at the behaviour of the Eastern Regional executives of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC). The executives expressed repugnance over members of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, headed by the Okyehene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin l, during their unwarranted visit to the seat of government, the Flagstaff house. In a press statement, the executives said instead of recognising the legitimacy of President Mahama, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin II, rather decided to ask the President to accept the ruling of the Supreme Court in the ongoing electoral dispute. President Mahama during the chiefs visit, pledged to accept the ruling of the Supreme Court. The NDC executives in the Eastern Region are of the view that President Mahama was coerced by Okyehene to make that pledge. However, speaking in an interview on Peace FMs kokrokooprogramme with host Tweneboa Kodua, Lawyer Kwame Acheampong said the chiefs visit to the Flagstaff house was just to congratulate the President on his ascension to the presidency, adding that the issue of the election dispute came in spontaneously. There were no ulterior motives...they talked about the case in the Supreme Court and pleaded that both sides will accept the verdict; this is a very important issue and I dont think it is not out of order or out of place. According to him, Ghanaians will feel secured hearing such comments from the President especially when they have already heard the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo Addo making a similar pledge. this is not strange and moreover, the President didnt complain but answered it appropriately...so what is the beef for them to make such comments. It was a very good discussion which is very good for the nation...it is out of place to say that the chiefs belonged to one political party or the other he added.
