I Trust Prez. Mahama - Okyehene

The Okyehene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin II, who is also the President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, has expressed his confidence in President John Dramani Mahama in fulfilling all promises made to the good people of Ghana in the four-year rule ahead of him. He expressed his trust when he lead a delegation of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs to the Flagstaff House to congratulate President Mahama for winning the just-ended 2012 general elections to occupy the higher seat of the land. He pledged the support of the Chiefs and people of the Region to him in his resolve to fight poverty through various pro-poor policies to improve the living standard of Ghanaians. Okyehene appealed to President John Mahama to enhance the decentralization process to ensure transparency, development and accountability and trust that the President�s team would assist him in achieving his aim. He called for more sustainable partnership between Chiefs and government towards the socio-economic development of the nation and suggested President Mahama to also consult Chiefs in the appointing DCE�s and Regional Ministers. President John Mahama expressed appreciation to Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panyin and the members of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs for taking time off their busy schedule to visit and congratulate him for his victory in the 2012 presidential elections. He used the opportunity to thank the chiefs and people for the warmly receptions they offered him during his campaign to their various jurisdictions. President Mahama noted that Eastern Region is one of the biggest regions in the country, but have problems such as lack of good roads and other important things befitting a region. He therefore assured of his government�s commitment in ensuring that road networks receive adequate attention to enable the region continue to contribute its quota to the growth of the country�s GDP. The President indicated that, his government would ensure that the decentralization policy succeed because time has come for the people to take charge of their own destiny to improve their standard of living. Mr. Mahama said his government would also work on health and educational problems in the Region by building a regional hospital to improve access to health care and a new university. He promised to address the issue of illegal mining (galamsey) led and control by the activities of foreigners who are destroying our cherished natural resources living in its trail hunger, diseases and poverty.
