Okyehenes Conduct At The Presidency Is Hypocritical NDC

The Eastern Regional Branch of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) is claiming that the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs visit to the presidency was politically sponsored. The Regional Executives stated that the chiefs were doing the bidding of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who has filed a petition at the Supreme Court challenging the outcome of the 2012 elections which was declared in favour of John Mahama. Their claim comes on the back of a call by the President of the Eastern Region House of Chiefs, Okyenhene Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin on all parties to accept the verdict of the Supreme Court. The Okyenhene made the appeal when he together with some chiefs paid a courtesy call on President John Mahama at the Flagstaff House Tuesday. President Mahama also assured the nation that he will accept the court's verdict. Shortly after the visit by the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, their colleagues from the Northern Region also took their turn to visit the President. But spokesperson for the NDC Eastern Region Executives on Asempa FMs Ekosii Sen programme, on Wednesday said the conduct of the Okyenhene is hypocritical. Tawiah Boateng who is also the Eastern Regional Organizer indicated that, the Okyenhene as President of the Regional House of Chiefs should have used the occasion to condemn Nana Akufo-Addo's decision to challenge the election results in court since he is a son of the land. He added that Nananom should have also apologized on behalf of some of his subordinates who actively involved themselves in campaigning for certain candidates in the just ended elections. He described as unfortunate comments by the chiefs that the President did not consult them before appointing Julius Debrah as the Regional Minister, insisting that they are grateful for the nomination. The Eastern Region NDC Secretary also took a swipe at the former Minister, Ambassador Victor Smith for not doing due diligence before leading the team to the President. The NDC man intimated that Ambassador Victor Smith has justified why he was not retained as Minister. Tawiah Boateng said the visit has exposed Okyenhenes political coloration which in his opinion has done more harm than good to the region.
