Mahama Boys Hit Town

The Eastern regional branch of Zongo For Mahama (ZFM), a pressure group in the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), has distanced itself from media reports that sought to create the impression that some regional executive members of the party had hijacked the party and were consciously creating division in the region. The publication, which was attributed to the women organizer of ZFM in the region Azumi Adisa, said the group wanted the regional secretary of the party, Anthony Gyampoh to be appointed the Eastern regional minister because he was a father to all in the party. At a press briefing to dissociate itself from the media reports, the regional secretary of ZFM, Amuzu Selassie said the publication, which was headlined Zongo Club Speaks Against Negative Activities and mentioned ZFM as the group behind the publication, was entirely false. We, the entire executive of ZFM in the Eastern region, do not have a hand in the publication and that the publication was done by the womens organizer in her personal capacity which we do not subscribe to. Mr. Selassie said as a group, which has firm support for President John Mahama, it wholeheartedly supports appointment made so far by the President. The group also congratulated the president for nominating Julius Debrah, the current regional chairman of the party and chief executive of the Ghana Tourist Authority as the Eastern regional minister-designate. Members of the group said they have confidence in Mr. Debrah to deliver and also act as a father for all the people in the region. Some of the executive members of ZFM, who graced the press conference, included the chairman, Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim, second vice chairman, Haruna Seidu and the coordinator, Mohammed Ibrahim. Ironically, the womens organiser, Azumi Adisa, who was said to be responsible for the disputed publication, was also present at the press conference. She debunked claims that the group was behind the publication. In the earlier press conference, the group was said to have expressed worry about the negative activities of some regional executives of the party. Azumi Adisa, who was said to have organized the press conference in Koforidua on Wednesday, said the NDC would have attracted more floating voters but for the bad behaviour exhibited by those executives. She said if the situation persists, it would affect the fortunes of the party and discourage many from working for it. Ms Adisa appealed to President Mahama to be wary of those people, who are only interested in their own well-being and appealed to the President to carefully consider the nomination of Anthony Gyampo, the Regional Secretary of the party, as the Regional Minister as his contribution to the party has been well noted. She said Mr. Gyampo is a listening father who would help to promote the party in the region since through his great wisdom many in the Zongo communities were convinced to vote for the NDC.
