A jealous man who could not stand the sight of his ex-wife chatting with another man lost his temper and beat her up severely.
Kingsley Ofori, 40, was found guilty when he appeared before an Accra Circuit Court charged with assault.
He was ordered by the court to pay a fine of GH₵180; compensate his wife Dora Inkoom with an amount of GH₵300.00 and sign a bond to be of good behaviour for two years.
In default, Ofori will serve six months prison term in hard labour. The presiding judge, Ms. Sedina Agbemava, gave the order after Ofori had pleaded guilty with explanation.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Kofi Atimbire told the court that the complainant, Dora Inkoom is a 29-year-old trader who resides at Gbawe-Mallam while the accused, Kingsley Ofori is a mason.
The two were in a love relationship for six years and had two children but separated about two years ago.
Inspector Atimbire said, on January 14, this year, at about 8pm, Ofori saw Dora standing outside chatting with another man. Ofori out of jealousy started to insult her, �you are a prostitute,� he went further to beat Dora mercilessly until she started bleeding in the nose and also had an injury in the eye.
She later reported the case to the Odorkor Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) where she was issued with a police medical form to attend hospital for treatment.
