OFFICIAL: Akufo-Addo Was Not Expelled From Oxford University

Oxford University has admitted that though Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo, was at the University during the 1962/63 academic year, he was not expelled from the institution. Registrar of the University, Professor Ewan McKendrick, stated in response to a review of Freedom of Information request made to the University that We have searched our archives and found no record to indicate that Mr Akofo-Addo was expelled by the University. Prof McKendrick, however declined to comment on the course that the NPP flagbearer followed because I do not believe that the disclosure of the course he followed at Oxford is necessary to satisfy that public interest. "We have already disclosed a significant amount of information about his time at Oxford, and have now added to it through our revised response to part (c) of the request, as shown above. Disclosure of the course he followed would add little or no value to the information already disclosed. He does not appear to use his (limited) Oxford connection to try to secure an advantage in his political life and in the forthcoming election in particular," he said. A pro-National Democratic Congress group, Research and Advocacy Platform (RAP) has been questioning the circumstances under which the NPP flagbearer left the UK-based university. It remains to be seen if the statement from Oxford University will end the questions surrounding Akufo-Addo's exit from that prestigious institution.
