Striking Consultants And Specialist Physicians At Komfo Anokye Resume Work

Consultants and Specialist physicians at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi have ended their almost two-week strike with immediate effect. The doctors unanimously decided to call off the strike at a meeting in Kumasi on Monday following a letter from the Controller and Accountant Generals Department last week that gave the striking doctors an assurance that their delayed allowances have been transferred. Speaking to Radio Ghana in Kumasi immediately after the meeting, the spokesperson of the aggrieved doctors, Dr Frank Ankobeah, said the decision to call off the strike is in response to the show of goodwill by the government towards addressing their concerns. He said even though not all the concerns raised have been addressed, it is important that the concerned physicians reciprocate the goodwill shown and also allow the other negotiations which have begun to continue. Dr Ankobeah said already, a meeting has been convened among all the related agencies including the Ministries of Health and Education, the Universities and the Ghana Medical Association.
