Kwesi Amissah-Arthur Is Wrong Choice PC Ofori

An anti-corruption crusader and MP for Asikuma-Odobeng-Brakwa, PC Appiah Ofori, has vowed to lead a major crusade to block Mr. Kwesi Amissah-Arthur from becoming the Vice-President of Ghana. He told Citi News, the nominee presided over a Bank of Ghana that made what is now known to be fraudulent payments from the Consolidated Fund in the name of judgment debts instead of protecting the public purse. He cited, for instance, the Woyome Judgment debt scandal to back his stance that the current BoG boss must not be elevated to occupy the position of Vice-President of the country. He failed to perform his functions and failed to prevent the fraud because the money was in the Consolidated Fund and he was the custodian of the fund so what he should have done in accordance with the Financial Administration Act, was to ensure that the payments being made were supported by the appropriate documents. If he had said no, the Finance Minister would not have paid for instance, Woyome, the legislator explained. He added: He sat there unconcerned and allowed the loot to take place. What is he coming to do? He doesnt fit that position and I urge President [John] Mahama should discard him and get another person to come and do the job. John should realise that he has made the wrong choice. And so he should bring another person. The Appointments Committee of Parliament is scheduled to vet Mr. Amissah-Arthur on Monday to either approve or disapprove his nomination to the position of a Vice President to partner President Mahama to run the affairs of the nation.
