The Vice President Lacks Inspiration, Is No Match For Bawumia NPP

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has welcomed the choice of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, as Vice-President saying his selection places the NPP ahead of the NDC in the December general elections. President John Mahama settled on the economist as his vice presidential nominee following the vacancy created due to the death of President John Evans Atta Mills. The Coordinator of the NPP Campaign team, Boakye Agyarko, however, told Citi News, Mr. Arthur lacks inspiration and may not be able to deliver a Vice Presidential candidate. According to him, Mr. Arthur is no match for NPPs Vice Presidential candidate Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, who once served as the Deputy Governor of the BoG. Mr. Agyarko stated that, Mr. Amissah-Arthur has not been able to stabilise the cedi and its consequences are even being felt by street hawkers so there is nothing new. But an Economist at the Centre for Policy Analysis, Dr. Joe Abbey believes Mr. Amissah-Arthur is the best candidate government could nominate for the job. He opined, I think he is a good choice and in the circumstances, he is the best the government of the day can have even though I thought we had a rare opportunity to bring out the gender issue but I think its a good choice we can have. Dr. Abbey, however, added that the choices of economists as Vice Presidential candidates put the countrys democracy on a new level. I think its going to be part of this new culture we are all looking for where our political debates will be more about ideas and principles and not about personalities, he noted.
