PAC Hearing: Betty, Kan-Dapaah Clash

Drama unfolded at the Public Accounts Committees hearing with a former Attorney General, Betty Mould-Iddrisu, when before she agreed to answer questions from the committee asked for one of the panel members to be recused. Her request for the Member of Parliament for Atwima-Mponua, Hon Isaac Asiamah, to be taken off the committee was because he had taken sides in the case under review in the court of public opinion making him unfit to sit on it. She went on further to indicate that Hon. Asiamah had judged her on the 94 million Euro judgment debt paid to Construction Pioneers (CP), adding the MP was quoted by an Accra-based radio station Radio XYZ as having said that she (Mould-Iddrisu) conducted herself fraudulently in the CP case. The banter of wanting the legislator walked out from the committee raged on for several minutes after which the chairman of PAC, Albert Kan-Dapaah, ruled that if the witness and her lawyers felt strongly about the alleged statement of the MP, they should petition the law courts or the Speaker of Parliament. It was after this that Mrs. Mould-Iddrisu and her lawyers agreed to continue with proceedings and during the exchange of words, however, one of the legal counsel for the former A-G, Chris Ackumey was nearly thrown out from the proceedings, but for his swift apology. Mr. Ackumey was nearly sacked because he had continually interjected the delivery of the chairman without proper due procedure of calling the chairmans attention before speaking. The hearing commenced afterwards and after several arguments over figures and procedures, it was adjourned.
