President Mills Bemoans Destruction Of The Ocean

President John Evans Atta Mills has cautioned against the destruction of ocean resources by artisanal and industrial activities adding that this can lead to the extinction of the human race if serious steps are not taken. He has therefore called on world leaders to be at the forefront in this crusade against the destruction of the ocean considering its enormous economic benefits. Speaking at the first Ocean Conference held by the International Conservation Caucus Foundation (ICCF) in Washington, the president advocated the promotion of strong governmental leadership in the sound management of the worlds natural resources. Ghana, he said, is at the forefront of creating a sustainable and integrated management of marine resources through regional cooperation between all the countries sharing the Atlantic coast. He further commended the organisers of the event for focusing on the coastal line and advised that this crusade should not remain a talk shop. President Mills invitation, according to the organisers, is because of his role in the fight against ocean depletion and also because of his academic standing on global issues, especially during the period when he was a visiting scholar at the University of British Columbias (UBC) Liu Institute for Global Issues.
