The Flagbearer of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Akuffo Addo has lauded the President of the Republic of La Cote D�Ivoire and Chairman of the Economic Community, Alhassane Ouattara for his role in resolving the crises in Mali. Nana Addo stated in a press statement that he is greatly inspired by the swift, resolute and principled manner in which ECOWAS leaders have sought to reverse the illegal disruption of Mali�s constitutional order by elements of the military. ALLASSANE OUATTARA, PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF LA COTE D�VOIRE/ CHAIRMAN OF THE ECONOMIC COMMUNITY OF WEST AFRICAN STATES (ECOWAS) Excellency, I, along with millions across the globe, have been greatly inspired by the swift, resolute and principled manner in which ECOWAS leaders have sought to reverse the illegal disruption of Mali�s constitutional order by elements of the military. Through your bold initiatives, the credibility and richly-deserved prestige of ECOWAS have been considerably enhanced, and our shared commitment to democracy and rule of law further strengthened. It is for this reason that I deem it appropriate to commend Your Excellency highly for leading the effort to resist the attempt to impose through force an unconstitutional regime on the people of Mali, a sister African country with whom La Cote D�Ivoire and Ghana share strong ties of blood and friendship. Permit me to recall, in this regard, that not too long ago, constitutional rule was an exception rather than the norm in most parts of our region. We have since learned that political instability is anathema to progress, and I believe our peoples have already paid dearly for this aberration in our politics. That sad chapter of our history must, therefore, remain closed for the sake of present and future generations. It is, thus, immensely gratifying to witness the rapid progress being made towards restoring civilian rule in Mali, largely as a result of the agreement brokered by ECOWAS, under your wise and courageous leadership. The New Patriotic Party is committed to the preservation of constitutional rule in all ECOWAS member states. We trust that the leadership of ECOWAS will not relent in resisting any attempt to roll back the hard-earned democratic achievements of our region. I urge all peace-loving and democratic forces to rally behind your noble endeavours.
