An outspoken National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for the Lower Manya constituency, Michael Teye Nyaunu, has declared his ruling party will go into opposition come the December elections.
The legislator said the strained relationship between the founder of the NDC, Jerry John Rawlings, and the party as well as President John Evans Atta Mills, will adversely affect the party in the upcoming polls and if nothing is done about it now, the party will find itself in opposition again.
Speaking to Citi News on Tuesday, Hon Nyaunu said the party should not dare snub the Rawlingses this election year or will regret their actions later.
�President Mills� administration is determined with those youthful exuberance out there that they can win power without Jerry John Rawlings faction,� the lawmaker, who is a Rawlings aficionado, said.
�That is unfortunate. Wean yourself out of the Rawlings group and you�ll pay dearly for it. Unless we have to do something, my beloved party will go into opposition, I have said it.�
Former President Rawlings has noted in reaction to the suspension of his aide, Kofi Adams, from the party, that the Mills-led government �is fast speeding the country into an abyss� and called for a national prayer to save the country.
Mr. Adams was suspended and had his membership of the party revoked in an alleged plot to get President Mills out of power in the December polls.
