Mr. Isaac Kwame Asiamah, Minister for Youth and Sports has called on schools, colleges, institutions and universities to pay more attention to sports, since it is a major tool for development.
Mr. Asiamah said this, when he paid a courtesy call on Rev Fr. Professor Anthony Afful-Broni, Vice Chancellor for the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) after the passing out of 750 youth into the "Youth in sports Program".
Mr. Asiamah, who was accompanied by Mr Emmanuel Asigri, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of National Youth Authority (NYA), Mr Majid Bawa, Acting Director, National Sports Authority (NSA) and Mr Kwadwo Baah Agyemang, Board Chairman NSA.
According to the member of parliament for the Atwima Mponua constituency, there is the need to get more time for sports in our academic activities to bring up very disciplined core of youth, who would not only have to depend on academics for healthy living.
“It is time the academia give a lot of attention and time to sports in our various institutions and schools, to help develop every aspect of the future leaders.
“Academia should find a way of creating space in their curriculum for sports, which is seen as a major tool for development nationwide.
“The nation have won laurels in the past because there was so much sporting activities in our various schools and colleges but same could not be said for now, we have to go back to it and have a critical look at that” he urged.
