Ghana international Christian Atsu would be ruled out of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations if it is established that he sustained a Grade 3 muscle tear.
The Everton ace hobbled off the pitch after ten minutes in the clubs Europa League tie against Russian side FC Krasnodar on Thursday.
His club are yet to announce the severity of the damage.
Atsu faces anywhere between one and eight weeks out in the event of a Grade 1 or 2 injury.
A Grade 3 tear which will require surgery will sideline him between three to six months.
Ghana have also missed the services of Juventus star Kwadwo Asamoah who has undergone surgery to correct a knee injury.
