Morocco is considering backing down and hosting the 2015 African Nations Cup tournament in January as originally scheduled.
Morocco had earlier written to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) asking for a postponement of the tournament due to the Ebola pandemic and this prompted CAF to write to other countries, including Ghana and South Africa to be on standby to host the tournament should Morocco pull out.
CAF officials have met with the hierarchy of the Moroccan government and football federation, with CAF arguing that with Moroccos preparedness to host the FIFA World Club Cup in December, it would be out of place for the North African country to reject hosting the African Nations Cup tournament.
Advice of the World Health Organisation (WHO) was sought for by CAF, with WHO giving the assurance that travel between non-Ebola affected countries is allowed.
Talks between the Moroccan authorities and CAF have reached an advanced stage and an official announcement of Moroccos preparedness to host the 2015 African Nations Cup is imminent in the coming days.
