Former Black Stars Player, Mohammed Gago is calling for the re-instatement of Kwesi Appiah as Coach of the Black Stars team.
He has also condemned the decision by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to part ways with Kwesi Appiah, describing it as unfair.
The GFA and the former Coach of the team agreed to mutually part ways last week.
Both parties are expected to meet this week to agree on a severance package.
However, in an interview with Citi News, Mohammed Gago called for a change in mindset towards local coaches and insisted Kwesi Appiah needs a second chance to prove his worth.
Why dont we save money, bring one of our own to handle our national team. ..Lets have patience and deal with our own,he suggested.
According to him, challenges that the Black Stars is battling with is not caused by the Coaches.
It is the same people around who dont want the coach around, who go around trying to cause confusion between the players and the coach, he said.
He stated that Ghana has over the years failed to give local coaches that freedom they need to ensure that the team blossoms.
It is hightime we allow our coaches to work for the future. Coaching football doesnt take a year or a two to get things together. Sometimes it takes a much longer time. I think they should give Kwesi Appiahs job back to him.
A Sports Journalist, Nana Agyemang, has on the other hand urged the GFA to employ a local coach as a replacement for Kwesi Appiah.
He said the attitude of resorting to foreign coaches to replace the local ones must be discouraged.
