Two key figures in the Greek side have urged the club to sign the Ghana midfielder, Goal understands.
Ghana international Michael Essien has emerged as a transfer target for Greek champions Olympiakos Piraeus.
Goal Ghana can exclusively reveal that former France international Christian Karembeu, who is a strategic adviser for Olympiakos alongside South Africa's Pierre Issa, who is the club's sporting director, have all expressed interest in Essien and have urged management to buy him this summer.
Sources close to the Ghanaian player also indicated that it is likely he could agree to the deal because of the prospect of playing in the Champions League and the high salary rate.
The former Chelsea star, who is also on the wanted list of Besiktas, has a contract with AC Milan until June 2015.
