The 35-year-old boxer who made his professional debut on September 30, 2000, told the Graphic Sports last Friday at a press conference in Accra that he was only three victories away from winning a world title in the cruiserweight division, hence his renewed enthusiasm for the sport.
According to the blond-haired brawler, who stopped his last two opponents (Anicet Amoussou and Kwesi Tutu) after a seven-fight losing run, that managers who were based in Australia and the United Kingdom had assured him of a world title shot if he emerged victorious in his next three bouts.
"After losing to Bukom Banku two years ago, I am unbeaten with knockouts against my last two opponents," Powers said at a press briefing to herald his September 12 "Night of Fire" bout against Kumasi-based boxer, Joe Sarbah, which takes place at the Kotobabi Wembley Sports Complex.
He continued, "I am going to stop Sarbah as well because I have to clear all the losses in my record so I am beating all my opponents.
"All must throng the Kotobabi Wembley in good time because I will stop Sarbah by round five. I need five wins for a world title shot, currently I have two and when I beat this guy (Sarbah) it will be left with two. I have to be a world champion before I retire from boxing", he stressed.
Meanwhile, the 34-year-old Sarbah has vowed to end Powers' recent revival by knocking him out on Saturday.
"I will beat Powers, his cornermen will have to come to his aid otherwise I will kill him like a fowl", he bragged.
Other interesting bouts on the Night of Fire bill will see Emmanuel Quartey and Isaac Nettey clash in a Commonwealth Eliminator, Maxwell Awuku will battle Richard Amefu in a lightweight contest, Isaac Dogbe will engage Raymond Ansah in a featherweight bout and Yakubu Kareem will take on Ghalley Cudjoe in an international bantamweight fray.
