The Volta Regional office of the Centre for National Culture (CNC) has instituted the celebration of drama and poetry festival for basic schools in the region.
The initiative is to rejuvenate the habit of reading and writing in children and expose their talents in performing arts. Mr William Addo, Regional Director of CNC, told the GNA in an interview that the first festival scheduled for 24th-26th February would bring together 16 basic schools in the Ho Municipality to exhibit their talents in drama and poetry.
Mr Addo said based on the success of the first event, subsequent ones would involve basic schools from other districts in the Region. He expressed the programme would help instil the culture of reading and writing in pupils and help them discover other talents that could be developed in future.
Mr Addo said the pupils would be made to write their own poems and drama pieces which is "an academic work in itself while they think they are playing or having fun."
