The Minister-designate for Sanitation and Water Resources, Lydia Seyram Alhassan, on Tuesday got emotional and broke down in tears before the Appointment Committee of Parliament when she was asked questions about the 2019 Ayawaso West Wuogon parliamentary by-election disturbances.
She told the committee that she was no where near the incident and could not be held responsible for the violence at the Bawaleshie polling station.
"I was in pain (apparently referring to the death of her husband which led to the by-election) and couldn't have been involved in any violence," she said.
Her answer to the question asked by the Minority Leader, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, was truncated briefly as the chairman of the committee, Joseph Osei Owusu, tried to calm her down.
Practice
As has been the practice, leaders of parliament who appear before the committee are treated differently and as a former First Deputy Whip, she was not asked many questions.

@Ablodey Ken do you have any proof? That is below the belt. But the answer the answer the honourable MP gave that she was not involved in the violence is insulting. It shows her lack of understanding of leadership in general and political leadership in particular in Ghana. Sometimes I wonder what these politicians take us for. There is no way she can explain away her innocence and total disconnection from that brutal incident we saw. I don't remember her calling out and condemning the actions of those so-called thugs .No one got punished in a deserving way for the electoral violence. She was the ultimate beneficiary of the violent elections and conveniently chose to remain silent and now she wants us to believe she is completely innocent. In Ghana such electoral violence will never happen without remote involvement of political actors. Ghanaians are too discerning for her crocodile tears.
Why asked this questioned which is not relative to the position being sorted for except for mischief a trademark of NDC
That is what all women do! They shed crocodile tears to court sympathy! You killed your husband to inherit him in parliament so ***barred word***!
