The Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Samuel George Nartey, is of the view that Ghana's economy will not collapse if American businesses decide to pull out of the country following the passage of Ghana's Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2021.
The controversial anti-LGBTQ legislation which prohibits lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) activities and criminalises their promotion, advocacy, and funding in the country, was unanimously passed by Parliament on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, after three long years since it was introduced on the floor of parliament.
The anti-LGBTQ bill if assented to by the President will, among other things, impose sanctions on willful promotion and engaging in LGBTQ activities in the country.
The bill proscribed a minimum sentence of six months and maximum three years for persons caught in the act of same-sex activities.
However, persons found guilty of willful promotion or advocating or funding the activities of LGBTQ will, upon conviction, face three years minimum and five years maximum imprisonment.
The Ningo-Prampram legislator, who was speaking with a Nigerian-based News Central TV said, "American businesses in Ghana are not in Ghana because of LGBTQ+" and that "they are in Ghana because they make profit."
For him, Americans ought to stay away from Ghanaian local politics, stressing that Ghana is a sovereign nation.
Mr Sam George called on African nations to be strong and firm in their decisions.
He said Americans and Western nations do business with nations such as Qatar and Saudi Arabia, but such nations have death sentences for persons who are caught in same-sex activities.

Who is setting up NPP? Wasn't it a group of MPs including NPP MPs who started this and all of the MPs supported it? Why are people so pretentious? What's deadly about this bill? It doesn't ask people to go go and witch hunt offenders. It's simply asking people involved not to go public about their acts because the nation abhors it. It is up to them to keep their sexuaI lifestyle private just as there are laws barring people from engaging in sexuaI activities publicly or exposing their bodies publicly. What is the difference? Weren't we in this country when akuapem poloo was imprisoned for exposing her body to her son ? If no images came out, would she have been imprisoned? And did anyone defend her that it's her private matter or decision so the state shouldn't penalize her? Let's stop the hypocrisy those of you who think you know so much but know nothing in reality.
Sure!! They are setting NPP up!! They should be very careful l!!!
Is this man Sam George normal at all. Has he ever worked in his life and opened a company to offer jobs to people in Ningo-Prampram. What is he talking about. Whether we like these gay people have billions of dollars and the can decide to invest it any part of the world. Some of free monies that comes to Ghana comes from gay people. The simple truth is that Africans for that matter Ghanaians can't lead in anything let alone use the resources well in their respective countries to solve problems from health, food, school, and hosing. Most of the MPs in Ghana's Parliament are sickening with no reasoning ability and Sam George happens to be. Is he now God to judge people who decide to be gay. This gay thing is a sign of the end times as written in God's word. The day of judgment is fast approaching but it is not in my power to judge gay people. I will stick to my pretty wife and children and abide Gods word. What is critical time in Ghana a Gay bill is not Ghana needs but good jobs for young men and women to do. Sam George should have spent time to secure employment and businesses to the poor communities in Ningo-Prampram and create avenues for a lot of ladies in his area who engage in prostitution.
