Henry Nana Boakye, the National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party, has implored the government to, with immediate effect, withdraw the emission levy imposed on vehicles.
The government announced the imposition of a levy on carbon dioxide equivalent emissions on internal combustion engine vehicles in accordance with the Emissions Levy Act, 2023 (Act 1112).
The Emissions Levy is in line with the government’s efforts aimed at tackling greenhouse gas emissions, promoting the use of eco-friendly technology, and ensuring a safe environment.
But many Ghanaians, particularly car owners, drivers, and motorists, have complained bitterly about this emission levy, citing the economic burdens it adds to their plight.
Nonetheless, the government, through the Ghana Revenue Authority, has effected the levy.
The implementation of the emission levy came into force yesterday, February 1.
Addressing this levy during a panel discussion on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show, Henry Nana Boakye, affectionately called “Nana B”, asked the government to pay attention to the cries of the masses.
He told the host, Nana Yaw Kesseh, that the government must stop the implementation of the levy.
“The government must withdraw with immediate effect. It is unnecessary...What is Emission Levy?" he slammed the government.
He emphasized, "We all admit that the COVID and Russia-Ukraine war brought economic pressure. We don't have to further burden Ghanaians...For me, that emissions levy must be withdrawn ASAP. Let’s listen to what the grassroots are saying. I’m the National Organizer of my party; I listen to my people.”
He also cautioned the government against the imposition of VAT on electricity consumption.
“This must be withdrawn in addition to the VAT on electricity," he exclaimed.
He noted that his call for the withdrawal of these taxes is supported by the ruling New Patriotic Party.
"I am not stating my individual position. That is the position of the party."

After distroying Ghanaians jobs, authors (nacca issues curriculum bla bla), banking cleaning bla bla, e levy against mobile merchant, halkers at toll booth bla bla etc next time don't vote for old people
studiid Nana B now you have seen how insensitive Nana Addo/Bawuliar and NPP are to Ghanaians. You now praising Mahama that he was a caring government to have not introduced VAT on electricity Just say thank you to Mahama and NDC government and leave the wicked Nana Addo/Bawuliar and NPP. lol now you know things are hard God punish you Amen
There is a grand and wicked scheme by Akufu Addo, Gabby and Ken to derail Bawumia chances of been elected. How else do you explain these two draconian taxes in an election year.
Well said, any well meaning NPP member/ supporter is saddened by the the actions and in actions of the finance minister with the president looking on unconcerned. You just can't imagine what's goes into the thinking of the finance minister before he comes out with some of these unpopular policies. Common sense should tell him that it's emissions that result in pollution so if it's actually true that there is an existing charge on pollution why impose another levy on emission? The president and his cousin ie Ken Ofori Atta are behaving as if they care less about a future NPP after their exit. I keep saying if former president Kufuor and his finance minister late Kwodwo Baah Wiredu were misbehaving like we are currently witnessing , will Ghanaians have voted for Akuffo Addo to come to power as president to now appoint Ken Ofori Atta as finance minister. What was the record of Akuffo Addo before 2017? It was Kufuors pro poor policies he campaigned on to win power. The fact that Akuffo Addo led with 49%+ in the 2008 elections should tell him that the NPP was still the popular choice of Ghanaians after 8 years in office. The very people who are going to queue to vote to enable the NPP " break the 8" are the very people you keep embarrassing and disappointing. How then do you expect to "break the 8". Are Ghanaians your slaves or you think the people can't read in between the lines? I pity Bawumia at this stage. Akuffo Addo and his cousin keep scoring own goals to the detriment of Bawumia's campaign. How do you expect him to defend the indefensible. Akuffo should and must be told that hearing and listening are not the same. In 2016 Ghanaians heard John Mahama alright but did not listen thus the poor results he got. The people will definitely hear the NPP's message. Question is can you force them to listen? Most of the NPP MP's who decided not to contest again for election 2024 withdrew from the race because of frustration. They are not happy with the president but who can they complain to , thus their decision to quietly withdraw from the scene. A 2017 elephant with very big ears as usual, unfortunately it doesn't listen, at best it hears but won't listen. Am NPP but truth be told, Akuffo Addo has come to dumpen the spirit of the once vibrant and purposeful NPP Kufuor handed over . Why won't Mahama walk with his chest out comparing what is currently happening. Why will you sit unconcerned and allow one man, Ken Ofori Atta to " kill" the NPP . Why? Because of his what? What? Why will any right thinking politician be imposing unpopular and nuisance taxes 10 months into a crucial election? The refusal of Akuffo Addo to reshuffle his appointees is the cause of all these. It is too late now. If you cook beans, you put sheabutter in when the beans is still hot, if you allow the beans to go cold and you now put sheabutter, it will never melt. This is exactly the dilemma in which Akuffo Addo finds himself. Very unfortunate
This is how the party should have been forthright with Nana Addo and Ken Ofori Atta, instead you joined him to undemocratically impose his darling Bawumia on the party. Those guys have a different world view, they think they can always get whatever they want and get away with everything. They're inflicting excessive pains on Ghanaians, I don't even know what is motivating them.
Nana is steadfastly stubborn and adamantly stiff necked! Tintintininti, mentie obiaaa! It's amazing how he makes Mahama look like an angel now
