Osei Bonsu Amoah, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Akuapem South Constituency has in a surprising turn of events, withdrawn from the upcoming NPP primaries.
He has subsequently asked the party to delete his name from the ballot paper for the upcoming election.
It may be recalled that there were earlier reports that O.B Amoah as he is popularly called was not seeking re-election.
But in a statement, he strongly refuted those claims saying he was still in the race.
O.B. Amoah clarified that he picked up and filed his nomination forms within the deadline, reaffirming his commitment to serving Akuapem South's people.
However, with barely four days to the primary, the Akuapem South MP who was seeking a fourth term in Parliament, says he's no longer interested in contesting.
In a terse official correspondence to the NPP, the incumbent MP expressed gratitude to the party but failed to assign any reason for his decision.
With the withdrawal of O B Amoah, the race is now between Kwame Ofori-Gyau, Eric Samuel Annor-Mensah, and Frank Aidoo, the Municipal Chief Executive for Akuapem South.
