Dr. Benjamin Otchere-Ankrah, a governance lecturer, has replied to former President and leader of the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama, over his request for a honeymoon if re-elected into government.
John Mahama, addressing attendees at a 'Campus Connect' event in Hohoe in Volta Region, called on Ghanaians, especially the labour unions, to give him a grace period if he's elected president.
This, he aims to have in order to put the economy in better shape since, to him, the ruling NPP has collapsed it.
“And you will realize the harm that the NPP administration has done to Ghana’s economy. This country is broke, and so we will beg you that when we come into office, give us a bit of a honeymoon; let’s put things in place so that we bring the economy back onto its feet," he said.
Discussing Mahama's comments during Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" show, Dr. Benjamin Otchere-Ankrah found it unconvincing for the former President to demand a honeymoon.
According to him, Ghana is not ready to issue a honeymoon to any president, as, to him, there is no time to waste but for the president-elect to begin work right away after his swearing-in.
"We haven't made up our minds as a nation to allow any person to go on honeymoon. We are already behind. No, honeymoon. Maybe he has an explanation for it, but once we hand over power to you and you are sworn in, you need to be in office the next morning and start work," he argued.

@Kwaku Do you sincerely believe that Mahama can do anything significant in 4 years in this country? You people should give us a break with this your Mahama. He was incompetent as president, incompetent in opposition, so what else?
Why at all does Mahama think he has done better than Akuffo Addo. From Mills to the time you left office the Cedi has depreciated by almost 400%. Akuffo Addo' depreciation is only about 248%. So what is he jumping about? The issue is the majority of us expected a lot more from Akuffo Addo that he has not delivered but doesn't make Mahama better or preferable in any way. If you want to banter my points produce facts not insults.

***barred word***. When your president is destroying the nation who should become the genie. Don't talk ***barred word***.
Between Mahama and Akufo-Addo, the former is a Saint. Whether you like it or not, Mahama is returning to preside over this country. When Akufo-Addo appointed over 120 ministers, saying he was in a hurry to set to work and develop Ghana, what has happened. He rather claimed ownership of projects he inherited from Mahama. Is this not tantamount to stealing, deceit or dishonesty? I pity Ghanaians who still believe in this npp government inspite of the uncountable gargantuan scandals that have rocked while party, and still want to follow and defend them. It's so pathetic. And weak minds keep saying Mahama is not an alternative. Who is then the alternative? Keeping NPP is power after all they have stolen from Ghana and continue to plunge our economy into deep mess?
We are NOT giving him the presidency, let alone honeymoon. Mahama is just pathetic
