President Akufo-Addo has made a lighthearted remark in a message to the nation to commemorate Constitution Day on January 7.
He mentioned that his main opponent in the 2020 elections (former President John Mahama) has not yet congratulated him on his victory, even though it has been three years since the election.
"On a lighter note, three years on, I'm still waiting for my main opponent in the 2020 elections to congratulate me on my victory," President Akufo-Addo said in jest.
The President has stressed the importance of maintaining and safeguarding the country's democracy.
"By common consent, all well-meaning Ghanaians agree that the democratic form of government is the most preferable and we must do everything possible to guarantee the longevity of the Fourth Republic," he said.

By common consent, all well-meaning Ghanaians have agreed that the democratic form of governance is the most preferable, and we must do everything possible to guarantee the longevity of the 4th Republic.
I have spent my adult life fighting for our individual and collective rights, and it is, therefore, gratifying to note that the nation's adherence to democracy has not waned. We know that there are no quick fixes to the challenges confronting us, and, as we have seen in recent times, democratic structures of governance are capable of accommodating the most difficult of circumstances.
We have, happily, turned the corner on our economic situation, as we experience the rebound of the national economy, and we will continue to work strongly at the problems facing the nation, knowing that the solution, every four (4) years, rests, in part, on the sovereign will of the Ghanaian people, when you exercise your power to choose freely your leaders to manage the affairs of the country.
Democracies are grounded on viable elections, and, this year, like we have done on eight (8) other preceding occasions, we will go to the polls to elect the President and my successor. No true democrat can disregard the importance of elections and the sanctity of the ballot.
It must, thus, be in our collective interest to ensure that the rules and regulations for the conduct of this year's elections are fair and transparent, and that we all develop respect for them, a respect that should not be a function of whether you win or lose.
All stakeholders, that is the Electoral Commission, the political parties and their leaders, the electorate and citizenry, should work to assure the consolidation of Ghanaian democracy, and help us maintain our pride of place on the continent as a model of democracy in Africa.
At the end of it all, there should be no lingering doubt about the legitimacy of the election, and the winning candidates, on the conclusion of the process, should receive the unalloyed support of all. That is how we can strengthen our democracy and the peace and stability of our nation.
On a lighter note, three (3) years on, I am still waiting for my main opponent in the 2020 elections to congratulate me on my victory.
I swore an oath on 7th January 2017 and, again, four (4) years later, on 7th January 2021, to be faithful and true to the Republic of Ghana, and preserve, protect and defend the Constitution. I shall continue to do just that.
It will not be under my watch that any adventurer will seek to torpedo the democratic path on which we are embarked. I will help see to it that we have a free, fair and transparent election in December 2024. You have my word! Ghana will be the victor of such an outcome, not any individual party or candidate.
Nonetheless, I urge you, my fellow Ghanaians, to continue to embrace the basic values of the Constitution, founded on the principles of democratic accountability and respect for the rule of law, human rights and individual liberty and freedom, which the great majority of us believe must form the bedrock of our national development and individual prosperity.
Yet alongside this freedom, we must, with the same passion and commitment, uphold our individual and collective responsibility to contribute proactively toward the greater good of society. This is the vision of a free society. No society can be truly free unless its citizens feel the need to embrace both liberty and duty, hard work and compassion.
Ghana is considered a beacon of democracy and stability in Africa, and the celebration of Constitution Day should inspire us, Ghanaians, even further, to hold on to this enviable status.
Once again, I thank Almighty God, and, you, the Ghanaian people, for giving me the opportunity to serve you these past seven (7) years. I have not taken it lightly. I remain committed to the mandate you freely gave me, and will use the last year of my stay in office to do all in my power to continue to help create a free and prosperous nation of opportunities for all. The Battle is the Lord's!!

Mr President, Please focus on delivery of economic prosperity . This personal congratulations message is not important to us . You were elected to help bring the masses out of poverty into at least better standard of living . Please If you think this is a personal aggrandisement thing then please wake up. Please find the completeness of your inadequacies somewhere else and allow those who are willing to sacrifice for the greater good take over.
Thank God Nana came we would still see Mahama as evil , corrupt and wicked . We were looking for somebody who promote development , reduduce corruption , reduce the burden on the common Ghanaian , push for industrialization , patriotism and even affect morals. We thought Nana is the man but rather he has became worse . Atta Mills and work for all the regions , Kufour came work in all the regions , Mahama came work for all the region but Nana is spending the 80% in the Eastern region , Curruption is high ascendancy , increasing taxes and adding more taxes but he and the people around him continue to spend more with that large governent size , intimidation , selective justice because of influence from gov. Though the free SHS is good but goes alot of problems . The system is being use has maduim of making money . The quality of sdudents comiming out (some with alot of A but when tried there are a lot of chaff). Moral standarsds are coming down because of the system we have now . Few people around the goverment wants everything for themselves , tribilism and partisan is the order of the day not Ghanaian.
Let Mahama keep his congratulatory message. Akuffo Addo does not need it for anything. Mahama and NDC are dangerous. Where is their revolution background? They call on hooligans to go and cause violence.
nice
Honestly, do Ghanaians think akuffo addo won the last elections? Ebeii NPP foot soldiers, do you think Ghanaians are that dumb? They almost lost the majority in parliament if not for that independent candidate who decided to side with them. That is very telling in itself. NDC simply did not present their case strongly. Now there is a difference between presenting your case strongly and presenting a strong case. Whilst you may have a strong case , not presenting it strongly can go against you and that was what happened to NDC. Apart from that can NPP supporters honestly say they are proud of the way this government has managed the economy?
@agbenyo, you call their deaths ***barred word***, right? May their blood be on your hands and the blood of Ahmed Suale,J.B Danquah be on you and your murderous government led by this short, incompetent ediot. Only an ediotic NPP foot soldier will look beyond the numbers of our economy to defend what is going on in this country. To the extent even accessing IMF support has to come with haircut. You guys should stop your tsupid propaganda and take a dose of reality to sober up. We know you people don't use your heads but for once at least do so! Even NPP MPs recognised the mess this short ediot and his cousin caused. It's only illiterate footsoldiers like @agenyo and his ilk who still can't see it because they use their heart instead of their heads!
Forget! He will not. The biggest mistake Ghana ever made was to elect someone like Mahama as President of Ghana. The humiliation he ever did to Ghana at the international lever. Corruption King, GO1. Airbus.....
@Takum: Upon the ALMIGHTY CONFESSION of the then NDC General Secretary and Now NDC National Party Chairman - Aseidu Nketia, you're still wallowing in this lies that the election was rigged. No wonder 8 of your party foot soldiers died f00lishly in the aftermath pf the 2020 elections. They deceived them with lies to cause m@yhem of which the security agencies would not allow. Now, most of Aseidu Nketian and JDM's children are OUT of GHANA but they know you're so vulnerable that you'll die for them, that is why you're still making these ug!y noise. Please, wise-up. They preparing with their foreign counterpart companies to loot the country and you're here ignor@ntly die!ng for them. you're dear to your parents, family and children. DO NOT LET PEOPLE TELL YOUR PEOPLE NOTTO MOURN YOUR DEMlSE.
Under your watch, 8 people died during 2020 elections. In 2012, the NDC won majority seats in parliament yet Nana Addo and Bawumia engaged in a senseless election petition which dragged in court for 8 months until the John Mahama’s victory was affirmed by the Supreme Court. Did Nana Addo ever congratulated John Mahama? Just give us a break and fix the country. That’s the concern of every Ghanaian. We have moved on with the 2020 elections which counting was done 5 times before the EC was able to declare the results. Ghanaians are just waiting patiently for you to leave the scene come Jan 7, 2025 and thank you for wasting our time and resources for 8 years with arrogance. Never again would Ghanaians entrust their destiny in the hands of NPP!
Mahama is a bitter looser. He is incompetent, unpatriotic, arrogant and corrupt. He feels that Ghana is for him. Greedy man
