Energy expert Kwadwo Nsafoah Poku has questioned Mr John Dramani Mahama’s 24-hour economy policy he intends to implement when elected as president again.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer is busily campaigning with the message of introducing a 24-hour economy policy to help revive Ghana’s economy.
In a statement commemorating the 2023 International Youth Day, Mr Mahama outlined his administration’s commitment to nurturing a skilled and entrepreneurial youth.
“A new NDC administration will work urgently to equip our youth with the entrepreneurial knowledge and skills needed for a sustainable future. We will introduce a 24-hour economy with incentives and tax breaks for manufacturers who will run extra shifts to create more room for employment,” he stated
But some including Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia believes that Mr Mahama lacks an understanding of the policy he is promising to Ghanaians, adding that the policy is already being partially run in Ghana.
Highlighting various sectors of the economy, such as healthcare, security services, and digital transactions, that are already operating 24 hours due to the digitalisation agenda he has championed since 2017, Dr Bawumia, who is also the New Patriotic Party's flagbearer for the 2024 general elections, further asserted that a 24-hour economy cannot be legislated by the government.
In defiance of the dialogue surrounding the policy, Mr John Mahama insists that is what will change the ailing economy by the Nana-Addo-led government.
However, Kwadwo Nsafoah, a one-time NPP flagbearer aspirant has questioned if he (Mahama) has the resources to fund the already existing policy.
“Does he [John Mahama] have the money to pay workers if they are to work for 24 hours?” He questioned in an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show, Ghana Montie.

***barred word*** Khalifa, Yes he was asked this question at Straight talk BBC and he told them he is Going to tell Ghanaians when he comes back and when he came back at the IEA debate he was asked the same question by Former running mate for John Mahama Prof. Nanaana Jane Agyeman and his answer was he was going to user some of the oil fund and other sources to educate Ghanaian Children. next time do research you come and say things out of your ***barred word*** head.
Myopic minds of NPP, if Akoffo old loooool Addo funded ***barred word*** cathedral which brought nothing to the economy, why do you (NPP) question 24hour policy that will turn the economy around, all government need is to provide security and incentives for private sector to create the jobs for the jobless in shift system go and learn
When the present government was promising one this, one that and free SHS in 2016, did anyone questioned how it would be funded? The 24-hour economy is Mahama’s vision when he is given the mandate. This 24-hour economy strategy had been implemented in Sidney, Australia after the Covid-19 pandemic and economic activity has increased significantly with massive job creation. We should be thinking about how we as a country can re-engineer our economy to achieve growth and stop the textbook economics. We need practical solutions and move away from small scale and community mining which the president and the vice are busily commissioning. The much talked about one district, one factory and one district, one million dollars championed by the vice president during the 2016 campaign, did anyone questioned how it would be funded, yet Ghanaians bought into it.
Mahama paid only 3 months of the total 36 months newly employed teachers had genuinely worked for. Mahama can deceive some of you all the time but can't deceive some of us anytime because we know him as JDM yesterday, today and tomorrow.
Ah so you know say Akuffo adoo chop all the money so none willl be left, JM 24-hr economy no b3a
