Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh says the basis for the voting for a candidate in an election should be based on competence and not religion.
According to Dr. Prempeh, the key determinant in an election should be one’s ability to bring the needed prosperity to the people.
Speaking at a meeting with artisans and delegates of the Manhyia South constituency NPP in Manhyia on Friday, 27th October, 2023, he said Ghana over the period has had the phenomenon of all religions co-existing peacefully, therefore it is dangerous for anybody to play the religious card during any election whether in internal party or national elections.
“I, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, I was named after a Muslim and the Regional Chief Imam of the Ashanti Region is my brother. What this should tell you is that, in my family some are Christians and some are Muslims. This situation is also existent in a lot of families. It is therefore unacceptable to create partitions and divisions on religious lines”, he admonished.
The Manhyia South lawmaker added members of the NPP must be proud of the achievements of the government over the past 7 years and be resolute in canvassing for the party.
“The unfortunate global happenings have made governments across the world unpopular, however, the record will show that we have performed better even under these circumstances”, he said.
He further said the NPP has been better managers of the economy than the John Mahama-led NDC and expressed optimism that the NPP would win the December 2024 elections.
Dr. Prempeh urged delegates of Manhyia South to exercise their democratic franchise peacefully on November 4, 2023 stressing the unity of the party is crucial for a decisive NPP victory in 2024.

Npp indeed is the best managers of the economy. Only Npp Government was able roll out FREE SENIOR SCHOOL policy throughout the country .Even Dr, Kwame Nkrumah who many believes his Government performed well could not roll out Free Senior School in the entire country so first and foremost president Akuffo Addo has done extremely well in this country .That policy alone should offered a great opportunity to that party for retaining power to continue the sustenance of that policy. NPP IS FAR BETTER THAN NDC IN TERMS OF POLICY IMPLEMENTATIONS TO COVER ALL GHANAIAN S IRRESPECTIVE OF ANY POLITICAL AFFILIATIONS
@edem kudzo, we are in 2023, not in 2015, ok? Which global recession? How was Ghana directly affected by COVID or the Russian, Ukrainian war? Even for the west that was hard hit by COVID, it didn't have significant impact on them post recovery. What affected the west is the sanctions and counter sanctions, cut in gas supply, etc due to the Russian and Ukrainian war. How were these relevant to Ghana that only depended marginally on these countries for some grains? Rather, the living at large style, stealing without conscience, printing so much cedis for the government and members of government grabbing the Cedi's and chasing dollars and foreign currencies to exchange them etc are the reasons why we are where we are. Ours is largely due to attitudinal issues, government took advantage of the "global" issues and did all the veil things for their personal benefits so that they can point fingers to the global issues. They stole so much money for these primaries and 2024 elections thinking that they can adapt the Nigerian style of using money to buy the next elections. So the plight of Ghanaians is deliberately imposed by this evil government
Khalifa paa we should put party affiliation aside? If you don't support a party or doesn't have supporters, will the party be able to win win power?
Wisdom,Napo has beautifully put it...for me Nana's gov't has performed very well, amidst global economic recession. Looking at massive infrastructural projects he'd done( roads, hospitals, railways, school buildings in every single SHS in Ghana, factories etc),budgets allocations to all public institutions multiplied, massive retooling of the Police Service and other SERVICES,massive retooling of the Army, increament in their salaries.Massive health infrastructure and the Agenda 111...some of them even better and more than what Nkrumah did.The man needs to be commended for great policies he implemented.Through out his reign food has been in abundant, talk about his huge investment in AGRICULTURE...etc.I think NPP has super records to trumpet and tout!
In my candid opinion, the NPP should not waste our time again talking about the economy after destroying our economy and country. With the kind of economic mismanagement, impunity, arrogance on the part of the president, ***barred word*** and all kind of unprintable stuff, they still put the blame on Covid-19 and Russia- Ukraine war. Your own MP’s passing a vote of no confidence in the finance minister should tell you everything is going wrong. Only government officials and core supporters of the party are the ones defending the government. If we put party affiliation aside and ask everyone to vote by their conscience, NPP will not even have 10% votes in 2024. What is NPP coming to do differently in 2025? If they have something to offer the nation, why can’t they demonstrate it in 8 years. Our kind of democracy has failed!
