Seasoned Journalist, Kwesi Pratt Jnr. has defended musician cum entertainment pundit, Kwame A Plus, for being critical of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration for which reason some youth of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) invaded UTV last Saturday disrupting the station's entertainment show 'United Showbiz'.
A group of NPP fanatics stormed the set of 'United Showbiz', delaying the programme for an hour as they insisted to be part of the panel and also called for an apology from A Plus to the President and Vice President of the Republic as well as the New Patriotic Party(NPP).
They also found it "disrespectful" A Plus' action on one of the episodes on the show where he tore a letter that the New Patriotic Party had addressed to the General Manager of the Television network to reform 'United Showbiz'.
But Kwesi Pratt has some questions for the New Patriotic Party and any individual who agrees with the NPP youth led by the party's Greater Accra Regional Youth Organizer for causing chaos at the premises of UTV.
The Editor-in-Chief of the Insight newspaper noted that the beauty of Ghana's democracy is the freedom of speech and right to like or dislike something without intimidation, hence wondering what crime it is that Aplus has committed for displaying his distaste for the New Patriotic Party that should merit a physical attack on him by members and supporters of the party.
To him, A Plus has committed no offence for criticizing the government.
"A Plus has clearly shown he doesn't like some things happening in the country. It is not a crime. Is it a crime? If he doesn't like it, he doesn't. You cannot force him to change his mind. You can't also instruct a television station or radio station that A Plus should not be allowed there. Why? Is he not a Ghanaian?", he asked.
"In this country, there is a radio station that clearly shows they are NPP radio station. Has somebody gone to beat them? In this country, we have a radio station that shows they are NDC station. Does it mean we should go and beat them?", he further queried.
Mr. Pratt also backed Aplus for expressing his mind, saying "he is a Ghanaian; he has a right to speak".
