Presidential hopeful and former Minister of Trade, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen who shockingly withdrawn from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) upcoming presidential election weeks ago has, today, dropped another bombshell as he announces his resignation from the party.
"...under the circumstances, and given the context provided I wish to use this platform to announce that I am honourably resigning with immediate effect from the NPP to contest for the high office of the President of the Republic of Ghana as an independent presidential candidate," Alan said during a press conference on Monday, 25th September, 2024.
He cited various reasons for his decision, key among them is that "it is abundantly clear" to him that his "services and contributions to the Party are not appreciated, and that my continuous stay in the Party will create further tension and division, which is an exact replay of circumstances that led to my decision to resign from the Party in 2008".
Alan Kyerematen, affectionately called 'Alan Cash', addressing the press established his objectives for joining the NPP stating "I joined the New Patriotic Party at the very beginning of its establishment as a Founding Member, believing in its core values and the long-standing traditions of its antecedents, predicated on fairness, equity, probity, accountability, and transparency".
"I have devoted the best part of my professional career to serving the Party, and I still believe in the vision of the founding fathers of the Party," he emphasized.
But being a founding member of the party and playing a paramount role in the NPP government, Alan is convinced that the New Patriotic Party has abandoned its principles and for that, he no longer wants to associate himself with the party.
" . . the NPP as it exists now has very little resemblance to the Party that I joined in 1992 and helped to nurture. The Party has been hijacked by a selected group of Party leaders and elders, government appointees, 'behind the curtain power brokers” and some unscrupulous Party apparatchiks," he bellowed.

If somebody must be weary of this resignation, it is NDC!!! Their Volta and Central votes are at risk. Alan has been pampered for too long, and I feel ashamed that I ever supported him. No leadership, weak link. Mahama can follow him now, he is independent and let’s see what happens to the NDC
Someone who wants to resign will always have a reason to do so but looking at the situation now and the reasons given by Alan, it looks like he is being selfish and greedy. His campaign slogan was “it’s now my turn” and he was expecting the party leadership to push him ahead of anybody but it cannot work like that. You were given a ministerial role and served well under this same party leadership without complaining. You also went for primaries on the ticket of the same party and leadership without complaining. So are you telling us that the party just changed to be evil within this short time? The party leadership didn’t attack your member so that issue could be addressed. You didn’t get a lot of votes not because your member was attacked or the voting process was rigged so how unfair was the party leadership? You can’t lead to resolve this little internal party problem but you want to lead the party to contest in a general election that will generate more and serious problems. You should build a good relationship with your party members next time.
the party has been hijacked by the mother serpent of corruption and his team of incompetent followers. He has destroyed Ghana, so destroying the NPP is just something small for them to do
Most of NPP loyalists are just speaking out of emotions, without critically looking into the prevailing issues and their implications on the party and the nation. @ Peters has given some in-depth analysis , I hope the rank and file of NPap see such comments. Party leadership observed Akufo Addo disregarding the desire of Ghanaians and most NPP core members including majority of who were public about the need for changes in government. Now the whole party machinery is joining him to use old fashioned style to put his preferred candidate forward, wow and you're now surprised that these things are happening? If they don't sit up immediately, they should brace up for the worst. Party leadership has failed to show neutrality and allow everyone to feel belonged to the party, don't underestimate the effect of disgruntled party members, moreso the anger of floating voters against the government for the mishandling of the economy and the continuation of the unconventional brutal strategies of leadership.if today was 2015, there is no way Akufo Addo will win the heart of Ghanaians with the strategy and media hype that was used then because more Ghanaians are now very discerning, you don't leave more questions unanswered about the credibility and intention of BMW. You think merely that you are big NPP and so you can use primitive ways to make BMW the president? And he is also appearing too desperate, enjoying the skirmishes and hypocritically preaching non-existent peace
@@TT, and the pampered boy can go and play his football in his father's bedroom. He can no longer play on the neighborhood park.
Hmmmmm, let nobody downplay Allan's decision to run as an independent presidential candidate in the 2024 elections. This move by Allan has a lot of implications for the NPP going into the 2024 elections. Immediately Allan withdrew from the November 4 primaries to elect a flag bearer for the NPP for election 2024, i thought the council of elders of the party would have sat him down and talk to him. I doubt whether this happened. Again when it was reported that Allan's agent was attacked in the north east region during the special delegates conference and flown to Accra for further medical treatment at the request of Allan, i expected the national chairman and general secretary to visit this patient at the hospital because he is first and foremost an NPP member before standing as an agent for Allan, this the national chairman failed to do. This then seems to have confirmed the long held perception that the top hierarchy of the NPP were all towing one line i.e. The Bawumia line. Allan knows he can't win the 2024 elections as an independent candidate. However he can derail the NPP chances by pulling some of their votes because any body who will vote for Allanis very much likely to be an NPP member especially considering the fact that he comes from Ashanti, the NPP's stronghold. Again what has the NPP done done differently from the NDC in terms of development infrastructure to still hold the belief that that region will still vote massively for the party. If an NPP member decides not to vote at all in 2024, that becomes NDC advantage. I fear for the NPP because currently party enthusiasm is at an all time low.People are not happy. Again certain unguided utterances by the president is not also helpful especially his answer to the people of Kwabre about the bad nature of roads in their constituency where the NPP got about 80,000 votes. If the people decide to go by the president answer that when elections are due they can vote for the NDC, that is their case not his and that he is not the one who holds their thumb to vote is most unfortunate. The president public urttrances create an impression of ' I have gotten what i wanted so i don't care about a future NPP after my exit " . If former president kufour was going about making such unguided utterances, i doubt whether Akuffo Addo would rode on the back of the elephant party to become president. Fact is that the president hasn't handle the affairs of the NPP well since he came to power and this is where i fear for the NPP going into election 2024. Time will tell. But for Akuffo Addo , NPP would have been closer to "breaking the 8" than the NDC, initially Ghanaians seemed to have a lot of trust and confidence in the NPP but that trust and confidence seems to be vanishing due to the actions and inactions of Akuffo Addo and his appointees. They are making Mahama , who is definitely not the alternative, look like a saint . If Allan garners 2% of total valid votes cast in 2024, wahala for NPP. 2016 ( Akuffo Addo, 53.75% ), (John Mahama, 44.3%) In 2020 ( Akuffo Addo 51%), (John Mahama, 47% ) Remember Bawumia cannot escape Akuffo Addo blunders if he win his party's primaries thus a cane meant for Akuffo Addo may be used on him. if this is anything to go by, then 2024.............? Allan can cause trouble for the NPP in 2024, NPP will have to restrategize. They should get a popular Asante person/ politician especially a royal as running mate to neutralize the Allan " poison " if not, 'breaking the 8' could end up in wishful thinking. 'Mi suro paaaaaaaaa'.
@corrupt NDC, you people are so glued to primitive politics. The dynamics are changing rapidly, don't forget. Time will tell!
@TT, but don't forget that when the pampered boy takes his ball away, then the game is over for the other bully boys!
Who are Alan's advisers?
This guy's political career is over. No one will trust you again.
