Charles Owusu has applauded the Ghana Police Service under the leadership of Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, for preventing the #OccupyJulorBiHouse protesters from picketing the Jubilee House.
The organizers, Democracy Hub, planned to demonstrate within the vicinity of the Jubilee House from Thursday, 21st to Saturday, 23rd September 2023 but the Police, in a statement, disclosed it had filed an injunction application at the court and waiting for it to determine the matter before taking any further action.
The Police yesterday arrested 49 protesters for violating the Public Order Act and also for unlawful assembly.
"The arrest was a result of the flagrant disregard of the court process served on the organisers of the Democracy Hub group, which seeks to prohibit them from embarking on a planned demonstration within the vicinity of the Jubilee House from Thursday, 21st to Saturday, 23rd September 2023.
"We would like to state that the Police do not take delight in preventing any group from demonstrating as the Service has a track record of providing security for demonstrations in the past. The exception, in this case, is the Police disagreement with the organisers on the venue, the Jubilee House, being a security zone," parts of the statement read.
The Police cautioned the general public to "in the interest of public order and public safety to disregard any invitation by the organisers to take part in any unlawful demonstration until the determination of the matter by the court on the 26th September 2023".
Charles Owusu, speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" show, stated emphatically that there is nothing wrong with the action by the Police, thus commended the IGP and the entire Service for protecting State property.
"I feel that what they did is right...What the Police has done is a good thing. Every property we used State money to do, it behoves the person with authority to protect it to keep it safe," he said.

@Alhaji, you missed the point and demonstrated gross ignorance to my comment. At what point did I say they cannot demonstrate? Do they have to disregard the rule of law because they are CITIZENS AND NOT SPECTATORS? I don’t need to be a genius to understand what democracy is; as I may be more abreast with democracy than yourself based on the ignorance you have demonstrated here. When you read my comment, did I make mention of any party? Or you just tagged me with a party based on your assumptions. I am a patriot. I do not need to affiliate myself with a political party to comment on national issues. Again, you should also be objective in your thoughts as shallow thinking and hypocrisy affects your integrity.
@Abam Mensah(UK) you tell us what a security zone is since @Takum doesn't "seem to know". The same so-called "security zone" where a mere rapper from USA was given unfettered access to record and produce a profane-laden song for his personal business? And just because the wrapper was known to the president's daughter! Now compare that to demonstrators who were unarmed and wanted to present a petition to a president who urged them to be citizens and not spectators. How are citizens supposed to express their grievances if not through peaceful protest which the organizers sought to do? Indeed, some Ghanaians have very short memories. This same nana akuffo championed and led demonstarions in this country but l am sure the paid party puppets supporting this corrupt regime have found it convenient to forget. And by the way,why do some people always think every demo against government is the work of the opposition? You think Ghana is about NPP/NDC? Are you that myopic in your understanding of democracy and how a nation works? Can those berrating the organizers really say they're proud of Ghana in this state? The country with the highest indebtedness to IMF in Africa with nothing to show for it? Patients dying at hospitals because of no bed? Are you proud of it? People dying on motor way, high unemployment, high inflation, etc. You think Ghanaians need to be told these things by another uzless party like NDC ? You think Ghanaians are as dumb as these clueless NPP people pretending everything is ok when in fact nothing is working in this country? Give us a break. If you are feeding off on the proceeds of the current corrupt regime show sensitivity to the masses of Ghanaians who are suffering
Why are the demonstrators forcing themselves to demonstrate at the seat of the government when there’s an injunction? In all things, we should know that Ghana as a country is not owned by any political party occupying the seat at a particular time. We have to respect our institutions and image as a country. Most NDC people fueling this action do not care what happens to the jubilee house so far as an NPP government is in power. That’s not the way to go. Our hatred or dissatisfaction for this NPP government must be separated from the country Ghana because that is what will remain at the end of every government’s tenure. The demonstration can take place at any other place and the message will be dully sent if only they intend sending a message and not to cause chaos.
@Takum, what right were your so called defenseless citizens exercising? To disregard the rule of law? Were they permited to demonstrate or asked to be patient and wait for the court to determine where they can picket?. Do you understand what security zone is? Let alone the seat of Government. Just be objective in your thoughts as shallow thinking and hypocrisy affects your intergrity.
The police should not allow these stupidd demonstrations to go ahead. Bernard Mona always wants to go on protests against the NPP government but NDC. Yes, the government is unpopular now but they should wait to cast their votes if they can change the government. NPP's bad administration is better than NDC's best. Afia Odo and her group contribute nothing to the Ghana economy but always make noise. Like Mahama said we have short memories. Kuffour was deemed the worst President getting to the end of his administration but now he is a hero. General Acheampong was executed but now he is a hero. The same tribe that orchestrated the killing of Acheampong are at it again demanding a coup to settle scores with other tribes.
Why are Ghanaians so hypocritical? Why do even some lawyers deliberately refuse to accept that amidst the demonstration, the police are duty-bound to law and public order?
The media should stop giving this go.rrila the space to spew robish! What goes around comes around and Ghanaians will remember his tsupid statement supporting police brutality against defenseless citizens exercising their rights. And later things like this guy will like to be elected to represent people in parliament!
