Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has refuted allegations of him having a personal relationship with the leader of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and former President John Dramani Mahama.
The Inspector General of Police has been accused by his senior officers of harboring a political intent to ensuring the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) loses the 2024 elections.
There are also that Mr. Mahama has an opening in the Police Service due to his close relationship with the IGP.
Addressing these allegations before a Parliamentary Committee probing the leaked tape scandal involving senior Police officers, COP Alex Mensah and Supt. George Asare together with NPP guru, Bugri Naabu, Dr. Dampare made it crystal clear that he has no relationship with Mr. Mahama neither is he involved in any political machinations.
"I am a professional Police officer and I don't do such things...It is falsehood. It is not true, so they should stop it", he averred.
He added; "The position of the Inspector General of Police and by extension every Police officer is to serve the good people of this country, of which the former President is one of those and there is nothing wrong with that. But there is a distinction between something that has happened and something that has not happened and people want to create it in order to make their case look good so as to for them to get what they want because they know that type of information sells and that is shameful."
