NPP Member of Parliament(MP) of Bortianor-Ngleshie Amanfro, Sylvester Tetteh has called for unity within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as they gear up for the 2024 elections.
Hon. Sylvester Tetteh, an ardent supporter of Alan Kyerematen who has bowed out of the NPP November 4 presidential election, advised the members and supporters of the party to unite with a common goal of clinching victory in the next general election.
He noted that though his allegiances are with Alan Kyerematen, the NPP comes first and his candidate exiting the race doesn't mean he will not support the candidate that the delegates elect in November to be their flagbearer.
"The interest of the party should be paramount and we should rally around the flag for the good of our party," he said during Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' show Friday morning.
Alan's Withdrawal
Alan Kyerematen, on Tuesday, September 5, announced his decision to withdraw from the election accusing the party of disregarding the pockets of violence and intimidation that characterized their Special Delegates Conference on Saturday, August 26.
"After having carefully analysed the results of the said elections, it is absolutely clear to me from events leading to, during and after the elections, that the Special Delegates Conference was strategically and tactically skewed in favour of one particular Aspirant. The pronouncements made by some leading Members of our Party both before and after the elections, also lend weight to my observations," he said in a press statement.
He noted, "the level of intimidation of varying intensity, directly and indirectly unleashed on a significant number of Delegates at various Voting Centers across the sixteen regions, is unprecedented in the history of our Party".
" . . the fact that my Polling Agent in the North East region has suffered severe damage to his eye sight, arising from his bold and courageous effort to ensure compliance with the very rules and regulations for the conduct of the elections as approved by the Presidential Elections Committee, will forever remain a dark spot in the history of internal elections within the Party. This incident and various acts of violence and collusion, reported in other Voting Centers, are appalling, unconscionable, and despicable," he added and in view of this, stated "I wish to confirm that I am honourably withdrawing from the process that will lead to the Presidential Primaries to be held on the 4th of November 2023".

Well said. This is how a matured person speaks. Those making unguided utterances thinking they are supporting Bawumia are rather piling lots of weight for him to carry. The 2024 elections may turn out to be the most difficult for the NPP . In 2016 the NPP was attacking and the incumbent NDC was defending. Now it is the NDC that will be doing the attacking and the NPP defending. Bawumia should sit his close supporters who are also appointees in government to be mindful of their utterances. When you speak in ways that does not bring people together you end up shooting yourself in the foot. You need some skills to be able to build a house but destroying a structure doesn't need any skill. Of you think someone cannot build, also ask yourself whether he can destroy. One percentage difference means a lot in an election. Bawumia should remember that if he wins the party's presidential primaries to be the flag bearer it is his photograph that will appear on the ballot paper and not those making unguided utterances. If what you hear on the streets and at workplaces are anything to go by, 2024 will be a Herculean task. John Mahama is definitely not the alternative but the behavior, action and inaction of some appointees in government is giving Mahama a field day. In 2016 and 2020 if you ask the NDC they will tell you they had a message, the people heard the message but did not listen. The NPP should know that it is not about having a message, it is about whether the people will listen. As for hearing, they will hear once they are not deaf and dumb but will they listen? The strategy of every army general is that he wants to keep his troops intact, if new troops will not come to add to his existing troops but none of his troops will leave. How do you expect people to come to you when those already in are throwing mud at themselves because of their selfish interests and not for love of party. The NPP should be very careful. People are watching.
