Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah has reposed confidence in Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to beat his competitors by a wide margin in the New Patriotic Party's presidential election on November 4.
He predicts the Vice President Dr. Bawumia who came first on the list of top five presidential aspirants of the party by polling 629 votes representing 68.15% in the Super Delegates Congress will win by 80 percent on November 4.
"I know his win on November 4 will be more than the percentage he got. The gap will be wide...He may even go beyond 80 percent," he told Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" panel discussion programme.
He labeled Dr. Bawumia as the "best of the best" among the candidates and wants him to lead the party for two reasons, citing "he will be the first candidate to win the election straightaway. That is the first record we want him to set. The second is for the party to break the eight-year cycle of governance".
The November 4 contest will be between Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Member of Parliament for Assin Central; Kennedy Agyapong, former Trade Minister; Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, former Agric Minister; Dr. Owusu Afriyie-Akoto and a leading member of the NPP, Francis Addai Nimoh who had a tie with the former Energy Minister, Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko but will make the fifth candidate because the latter has withdrawn from a run-off that was supposed to be held between them.

In as much as i want Bawumia to succeed , people like the Ashanti Regional Minister could stand in his way. Is Simon Osei Mensah ( Ashanti regional minister) aware that most of of the school feeding caterers he treated like "animals" when they went to his office to complain about some of their challenges with the school feeding programme are NPP sympathizers whose voters matters if Bawumia is to be a president? Is the Regional minister ( Osei Mensah) aware that some of these women he chased away by throwing his hands at them have more children of voting age than him? Is Osei Mensah aware that women constitute the majority of Ghana's population and that they are the ones who decides the winner of elections in Ghana because of their numbers? How will Osei Mensah feel if these women also treat him same way he treated them if they were to meet at any NPP gathering? Can Osei Mensah look at NPP women in Ashanti in their face and tell them why they need to come out in their numbers to vote on election day? If Bawumia wins the NPP presidential primaries, he should constitute a campaign team that has the respect of NPP supporters because some of the current appointees have become so unpopular in their regions and constituencies to the extent that people get peeved on seeing them. As the vice president he can do his background checks, he will know them. We have ministers, MMDCE's and CEO's in this government who cannot win the polling stations where they vote for the NPP. So who's polling station should the party win for them to continue to be Ministers, MMDCE's and CEO's. Bawumia should ask each of those following him to bring their polling station results,( i e where they voted in 2016/2020) If the NPP did not win at that polling station, then each one should go and concentrate on his/her polling station rather than following him around.
I could not state it better than what Ahmed has stated. This ruling NPP government has nailed NPP to the cross. A woeful failure. The fact that the establishment supports one candidate speak volumes. Does the establishment expect to receive support from supporters of the other presidential candidates after the arm twisting and alleged heavy payments to win. If all Bawumia's North chooses to vote for Bawumia, how much will be the total votes he will get. NDC needs just 1 million votes from Ashanti to win. If the ground has been fair many would have chosen to support Bawumia in case he wins but since the establishment has been happy with their enjoyment and is therefore justifying the support given to the establishment candidate, the poor and neglected will know how to vote. Win the party presidential candidate and hand over to NDC. Be wise !
Ashantis are not ***barred word*** again. Greediness will send the party to opposition big time, you want Dr Bawumia for you to continue your stealing, the grassroots is looking for a new leadership in the party. Nana Addo and Dr Bawumia have been leading the party since 2008. 16 years is enough, the party doesn’t belong to Nana Addo and Dr Bawumia. They should go, why are you soo greedy politicians like that? Dr Bawumia will take the party to opposition because you people have neglected the grassroots. The party executives should ensure there’s a fair playing ground for all the aspirants. As a regional minister supporting one candidate, what will you do if any one of the aspirants wins apart from Dr Bawumia? Will you support that candidate or what as a regional minister? You have 72 % majority in Ghana but you want to select a candidate from the minority 17% ? What is wrong with you people? If assuming you win the 17% and loose the 72% how are you going to win the election forgetting that, your opponent candidate is from the 72% ?
