The Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah has resigned following public bashing in the wake of a reported case of theft at her Abelenkpe residence involving her domestic workers.
This is contained in a letter issued and signed by the Minister on July 22, 2023.
The Minister is reported to have lodged a complaint with the police, following which the suspected domestic staff were arrested and arraigned before court charged with allegedly stealing monies including 1 million dollars and 300,000 euros and some other valuable items from her (minister's) private residence.
The matter has sparked public concerns including the minority NDC calling for her dismissal.
When the facts of the court case went viral, the embattled minister, in a statement released in Accra on Friday, 21st July 2023 said there are "noticeable inconsistencies between what is being discussed in the public domain and the thrust of the original complaint on the matter".
Hon Dapaah further indicated her resolve to examine the origins of the inconsistencies and provide a detailed response in the coming days.
However, on Saturday, July 22, 2023 the embattled Minister announced her resignation in a letter copied to the President.
"I am resigning therefore because I do not want this matter to become a preoccupation of government and a hindrance to the work of government at such a crucial time," portions of her resignation letter to the President read.

Mr. President,
LETTER OF RESIGNATION
I write to inform you that I wish to resign from my position as Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources.
It has been a great privilege and honour for me to have been given the opportunity to serve in your government and an even greater honour to have worked to try and bring your great vision for our country to fruition.
Since yesterday, Friday, July 21, 2023, social and traditional media have been full of stories about a court case involving a theft that took place last year in the home I live with my husband and daughter. The stories sought to suggest that I own various huge sums of foreign currencies and millions of Ghana cedis which have been stolen from Whereas I can stale emphatically that those figures do notrepresent correctly what my husband and I reported to the Police, I am very much aware of the import of such stories around someone in my position.
I am resigning therefore because I do not want this matter to become a preoccupation of government and a hindrance to the work of government at such a crucial time.
I intend to cooperate fully with all state agencies to enable them fully establish the facts.
I have no doubt whatsoever that at the end of the processes, it will be fully established that I have conducted myself with integrity during my period in public service and I will be fully exonerated from all the allegations that have filled the public domain in the past 24 hours.
I thank you my dear, Mr President, for the honour done me in giving me the opportunity to serve our beautiful nation Ghana.
Sincerely,
Cecila Abena Dapaah (MS)

Go and defend yourself. Some of you are just creating problem for the NPP party. NDC people are not saints but they are just cleaver at stealing our money. John Mahama is the biggest th!ief but he is smart at hiding his loot.
I am so surprise that the elderly people in NPP government are the ones full of greeeeeed. After all, how many years do you still have to live on this earth? The actions of Nana Addo and his appointees has rebranded NPP as a corrupt party just as they were blaming NDC for. They have taken corruption to the next level in Ghana
I was even wondering how it was possible for house helpers to steal 1.3 million dollars from a room without a very transformative major change in the house helpers lifestyle. Maybe be just maybe hon Cecelia Dapaah inflated the stolen money for them to get a harsh punishment and it has come back to haunt her. Whatever it is, it is wrong for an enlightened lady like her to leave a reasonable amount of money in her house if she is not hiding anything. I’m a npp voter but she should be dealt with for her action and inaction. I hope and pray that no npp supporters or members should go to the court to support her if she is prosecuted.
Hmmmmm, having accused the then ruling NDC for indulging in corrupt activities , one would have thought that after winning power in 2017 having made the good people of Ghana to believe in the NPP's readiness not to repeat the very mistakes NDC made thus incurring the wrath of the Ghanaian people the government and its appointees including the presidency would have been extra careful in the various positions they occupied . Unfortunately they seems to have thrown everything to the dogs by shooting themselves in the foot on a daily bases. The current NPP leadership has taken the shine out of the NPP. It is very sad that all the sacrifices the NPP stalwarts made to entrench the party on the ground is being dismantled. Whatever the outcome of this case, it will be very difficult to convince the people that what they heard never was. The opposition will make political capital out this case and they have started. You don't accuse your opponent of something and when given the opportunity you go in to do worse. The actions and inactions by the NPP government makes John Mahama look like a saint thus his desire to come, but for these P-one-nic errors by the NPP John Mahama will never have thought of coming back. I pity the grassroot support base of the NPP for the trauma the appointees have caused them. How will the NPP ' break the 8' with such happenings. Very ,very unfortunate.
