Mr. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) vying for the party's flagbearer position, has voiced his discontent with the government's handling of the local currency.
During his campaign tour in Kintampo East on July 16, Mr. Agyapong expressed his dissatisfaction with the depreciation of the Cedi. He revealed that the value of his $40 million in Cedi equivalent had decreased to $16 million over a period of five months, spanning from March to August 2022.
While Mr. Agyapong refrained from explicitly mentioning names, he alluded to Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who leads Ghana's economic management team and is also an aspiring NPP flagbearer.
Mr. Agyapong remarked that it was peculiar to witness an economic manager seeking budgetary support from the International Monetary Fund and still claim to be a "strategist."
Mr. Agyapong stressed the significance of conducting a clean campaign during his address. He pledged to address any accusations levelled against him and emphasized the importance of governing the country with common sense.
The Assin Central lawmaker, Agyapong cautioned his fellow flagbearer aspirants to maintain a fair and transparent campaign. He assured that he would address every claim made against him and urged others to be mindful of their statements.
In presenting his economic management capabilities to party delegates, Mr. Agyapong asserted that he would be a more effective custodian of the economy compared to his competitors.
He highlighted his successful businesses, which he said employed over 7,000 individuals monthly, as evidence of his ability to contribute to reducing unemployment rates in the country.

politics of convenience, not politics of principles, he has two mouths this one
Talk is cheap. This guy is a business man but not a politician. If NPP delegates vote for him, he will be Ghana's Donald Trump. Loose talk.
One can't just understand why the presidential aspirants of the NPP; are at each other's throat. In all these, it is the delegates who will decide. The various contenders have forgotten that their common 'enemy' the NDC is standing and watching, taking note of all that you are saying against each other and will use same on whoever wins the primaries. Remember that whoever wins the primaries will need the votes of the supporters of the other 9 candidates to make an impact in the elections. In the presidential elections in 2016 the NPP won with 53.72%, NDC had 44.53%. In 2020 the NPP Percentage dropped to 51.30% and the NDC rose to 47.36% compared to the 2016 percentage. Any right thinking NPP person must be worried. Forget that it's no longer Akuffo Addo who will be on the ballot in 2024. It is about the NPP and not any individual. They are making the NDC very attractive with their unguided utterances. Lions are carnivorous animals but they don't go for their own when they are hungry.
Tell us what you can do to bring the cedi value up against the dollar. Do not look down on somebody who says he is a strategist, in any case, that person did not mention your name in relation to being a strategist. Ask yourself, what is your contribution to the cedi value decline? In your message, you stated that you have the largest cold store in Africa. May I ask, do you import your products? If you do, know that you are a contributor to the cedi value decline. The reason is simple, you use hard earned foreign currency to pay for the products thereby demanding more dollars resulting in the cedi value decline which you are accusing somebody of irresponsibility. Let us all becareful in what we say or do. Know that as you point one finger towards someone the rest point to you.
