Charles Owusu has taken a jab at the former Special Prosecutor and Attorney General, Martin Amidu over his utterances against President Nana Akufo-Addo and his government.
Martin Amidu has become very critical of the Akufo-Addo administration.
It could be recalled that Mr. Amidu, after exiting the office of the Special Prosecutor, called the President many names including describing him as a "mother serpent".
In recent times, the former SP has also taken active interest in the politics of the country and his latest comment is on the leaked audio recording where a supposed Police Commissioner and an NPP executive are heard plotting for the removal of the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.
To him, the leaked tape is not fake but a diversionary tactic by the governing New Patriotic Party.
"The recording and leaking of the tape concerning discussions to persuade the President to terminate the appointment of the Inspector General of Police on grounds of disloyalty to the incumbent Government and the NPP was a deliberate ploy to divert the attention of the opposition political parties, particularly the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to render it embarrassing for them to complain should the Ghana Police Service fail to supervise the security aspect of the 2024 elections fairly and impartially," he said in a statement copied to Peacefmonline.
According to him, he knows for a fact that "Dr. George Akuffo Dampare was handpicked for the position of IGP on grounds of proven loyalty to this Government".
He further shared that "the discussion for the replacement of his predecessor started long before his predecessor left office. The three kingpins in this discussion who held positions on the Police Council were my friends. When Dr. Dampare’s predecessor was to leave office the discussions and maneuvers intensified and the President’s support and concurrence sought and obtained.
"I know as a matter of fact that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who chairs the Police Council and chaired the Council meeting which formally recommended Dr. Dampare’s appointment to the President was a staunch supporter of Dr. Dampare, long before the office of IGP became vacant".
Responding to Martin Amidu in a panel discussion on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" show Friday morning, Charles Owusu labeled Mr. Amidu as a traitor.
"Martin Amidu has betrayed Ghana because of politics," he exclaimed.

Everyone in Ghana knows that Martin Amidu is a quitter and cannot walk the talk. He was given a Special Prosecutor job clothed with great powers but he quit. Now he is making ***barred word*** noice but we will not listen to him. The least Amidu talk, the better as he is wasting his time. No credibility anymore.
Martin Amidu has become a victim of a situation that was bound to unfold in the way that it has. Within his own party, he has lost a huge reference point of party loyalty and adiological principles that gave him the title of citizen vigilante. As a social democrat, he failed to prove his vigilante credentials when he was appointed special prosecutor by none other than the conservative NPP government. You see, once upon a time it was enough to be a Rawlings loyalist to boost your political career, let alone a prominent and respected lawyer. Note that being a good lawyer is one thing and not necessarily being a good politician. As a politician, Martin has always fought his way through and has never been able to make his mark.
