National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has asked for a full scale investigation into the alleged leaked secret tape which is calling for the removal of the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.
According to him, if the NPP government has nothing to hide then they should allow an investigation into the matter to enable those behind the despicable plot to be punished.
Speaking on Okay FM's 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, he explained that though he sometimes did not agree with some of the modus operandi of the Inspector General of Police especially during the Assin North by-election, he believes that he is doing well and does not deserve to be kicked out in such a coup d'etat manner.
"What transpired on the leaked tape is a recipe for coup and that government should allow for a thorough investigation if it has nothing to hide and really want to get to the bottom of the matter.
"They should spare us the various explanations they are giving out and ensure an investigation is carried out in to the matter and gotten into its logical conclusion," he said.
He further reiterated the need for the Vice President, Dr. Mahamoud Bawumia who is the Chairman of the Police Council to as a matter of urgency to have issued a statement about what is going on rather than going about campaigning.
"I think this is an opportune time for the Vice President who seems not to be a too proactive Chairman of the Police Council to quickly act on this matter, but he is rather busy going round campaigning whilst the Police Council is in turmoil over a leaked secret tape."
Interior Minister Dismisses Allegation
Meanwhile, the Minister of the Interior, Ambrose Dery, has dismissed allegation of the contents of a leaked secret tape in which the removal of the Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, is being plotted.
In the about an hour long tape, a purported police commissioner and someone who identifies himself as a former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) were heard plotting the removal of Dr Akuffo Dampare.
The voices in the tape expressed the fear that the IGP would not allow the governing party to manipulate the 2024 elections.
“This IGP won’t help us. He won’t, he wants everything to be done fairly and we don’t win elections that way. If we don’t remove him we can’t break the eight, in politics we need machinations and this IGP won’t allow that,” the purported Police Commissioner was heard saying.
But interacting with Journalists in Parliament, Accra, he said the tape should be treated with the contempt it deserved because government has no intentions of removing the IGP from office.
According to him, government was satisfied with Dr Dampare’s administration and would give him the free hand to operate as expected of an independent police service.
“Let me make it absolutely clear that this government is not going to tamper with the 2024 elections. The President does not want to stay one more hour beyond his term. We also want to make sure that we have a free and fair election.
“So we should dismiss such reports with contempt. There’s no plot to remove anybody, as far as I’m concerned he (IGP) is doing a good job.”

@Kwaku Poku, I can’t agree more with you. It’s done even in the advanced democracy states. The parties do their own polls and inform the delegates who is the best candidate to win an election for their parties. Whatever happens, i still believe Bawumia is the best candidate for the Npp. The matchup between Bawumia and Mahama favours the former.
Why is it that every NDC member and their sympathisers like the Kwasi Pratts are attacking Bawumia? Is it because they know Bawumia is the most powerful person to win the 2024 elections or is it a case of an opinion poll that they have done which they believe Bawumia has got no chance to win so by attacking Bawumia, most Npp delegates will think that they the NDC is scared of Bawumia and that is the reason why they are all attacking Bawumia. Bawumia, my favourite I believe is the best bet for the Npp in the 2024 elections but I strongly believe that the Npp should hire a good and credible pollsters to help them choose for the best candidate who has the chance to win the 2024 elections.
Ghana loses $30 billion every year because of physical and spiritual arrangements by the Ghana government and traditional rulers which prevent Ghanaians from becoming wealthy. Some believe that when more money gets to individuals they will misbehave with the money. It is believed in every part of Ghana that one needs to be a member of a political party in order to be wealthy, because politicians prefer only party faithfuls becoming wealthy. A change in attitude and policy will therefore make Ghana a wealthier country. We must look for better ways of controlling human behavior than preventing money from getting to people.
Is very wrong to appoint your opponent to your government in African, see the case of Martin Amidu as a special prosecutor He peavely blow of all your secrets do what ever it will help your government
See who is talking. As then general secretary of the NDC ,did you stop campaigning for the national chairmanship position when your then national chairman Samuel Ofosu Ampofo lost his mother? You intensified your campaign to unseat him knowing very well he was mourning and eventually you succeeded in unseating him. What about that. When it's about you, it's normal, somebody else is wrong. But for Ghana politics where will you stand to making such Nketiahlike utterances . Police service is in turmoil? Have you seen the doors of any police station closed ? Have the police parked all their patrol vehicles? Are the police not currently operating in the Tain area where you hail from. Have the people of your village told you the police refused to respond to their calls anytime they call on them? Don't bring yourself Lag
What a shallow minded people some of you NDC, So you guys intentionally plotted that tape to divert the attention of Dr Bawumia ,see how Asiedu Nkate3 is sweating bacause the gentleman is not paying attention to the so called wicked tape originated from their camp. thinking he is gonna spend his precious time on that cheap tape. What a bunch of waste.
From their plot to distract Dr Bawumia from his Campaign atɔ nsuom. When they saw that his campaign is gain greater grounds, then out of their fears of what they are seeing in the media, then they planned this audio to distract him as the head of the Police Service. To confuse him. Shame on the NDC.
We are warning Ghanaians to be careful with NDC. Ghanaians are going to regret big time if NDC comes back to power. All they are looking for is instability in the country. They are behind this so-called tape. Communist inferior tactics.
Koo Mosqui please let us get serious here wai. eben asem mpo nyi?
Double standard at its best, for the tape concerning the IGP is important to you because there is election element in it. For the former chairman of your party Mr Ofosu Ampofo's tape that one it is fake. God will never allow you national wreckers to come to power again. It is the president who appoints the IGP and in the tape they said the president does not listen to anybody's advice to sack the IGP so what is your problem?
