Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority, has defended former President John Dramani Mahama against claims that he is in favor of the LGBTQ+ community.
During the former President's regime, there were lots of criticisms against him, particularly when it was reported that he was associated with a gay lobbyist named Andrew Solomon.
Adding his voice to calls for the passing of the anti-LGBTQ+ bill into law to prohibit homosexual practices in Ghana, Dr. Okoe Boye opened up on his position on former President John Mahama's alleged allegiance to the homosexual community.
Speaking on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' show, he noted that there is no way the former President can be said to be gay because he has proven to Ghanaians that he is a heterosexual man.
To him, looking at Mr. Mahama's family, he doesn't believe Mahama is gay, however, he added, the former President unlike sitting President Nana Akufo-Addo failed to openly declare his position against the LGBTQ+ community during his administration.
"If someone tells me that JM is a gay, I will tell you is a lie. The deed speaks more words. He is not gay but when he was President for 4 years, I don't recall any platform he stood on to condemn gayism," he told host Kwami Sefa Kayi.

The NDC members always use president Mills statement against Nana Addo’s when speaking about the LGBT even though Mahama haven’t said anything against their activities. Is it not surprising that Mahama is always avoiding this topic yet we are being told that the current government is in support of LGBT so only Mahama’s government will prevent them in Ghana. Fear NDC.
This is a weak argument because you don't have to be queer to support gays and their offshoots like LGBTQ+; it's purely a matter of principle, reinforced by culture and religion. Personally, I disapprove of homosexuality because its implications contradict the system of re-production and generational existence that characterises humanity. Notwithstanding, I certainly believe that a corrupt African politician can engage in it or tolerate it for financial campaign support. And whether Mahama has the credibility not to be a victim is the big question.
***barred word***. Has anybody ever said Mahama is gay?
