Former PNC General Secretary, Atik Mohammed has passed criticisms about the candidature of Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto who is contesting the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer race.
The former Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto resigned from office to contest the NPP presidential primaries.
He is among ten aspirants going to the party’s Super Delegates Congress in August this year to trim the number to five who will be contesting in the main congress.
Discussing the prospects of the aspirants in the race, Atik Mohammed cast doubts over Dr. Afriyie Akoto’s chances of winning the contest.
He questioned the former Minister’s motivation for going into the election.
"Quiet frankly, I do not know what is pushing him to contest. Sometimes, we need to tell ourselves the hard truth. The first question is what are you taking forward?"
To him, Dr. Afriyie Akoto didn’t prove himself worthy when he was at the Ministry of Agriculture, hence wonders why he would even have the courage to go into the primary.
"We didn't see any wonders at the Ministry of Agriculture," he said on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” morning show.
