Political Science Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Legon, Prof. Ransford Gyampo has chided government for the knee-jerk reaction of canceling the collection of road tolls and reintroducing same.
Speaking to Peace FM’s Salaamat Kuukua Paintsil, Prof Gyampo condemned government for the intransigence exhibited when there were calls on the government to rethink its decision to abolish tolls on the road, particularly in the wake of the nation’s economic misery.
He called on government to be responsive and listen to voices of dissent, adding, governance is "too serious a business to be left in the hands of political point-scorers".
Meanwhile, Prof gyampo believes the reintroduction of the road toll is a good idea; however, "government should come out boldly and tell Ghanaians what went into the decision to cancel the road and why the reintroduction".

I wish the NDC would take your advice and refrain from basing their opposition politics solely on demonising the government to score cheap political points. Only a ***barred word*** wouldn't change his mind for good advice, the e-levy has not delivered the planned rersults so reverting to road tolls is an obvious alternative, then the facility is at hand. However, the implementation of road tolls is cumbersome and leaves much to be desired. But given our financial situation, it's worth it.
