Governance Lecturer at the Central University, Dr. Benjamin Otchere-Ankrah, has called on government to use brute force against illegal miners.
According to him, this is the only way to stop the galamsey menace in the country.
He noted that no amount of advice or words will convince the people engaged in galamsey to quit this illicit trade.
"If we have the will, we should be able to stop galamsey in two months . . . If the government is willing to fight galamsey, it can fight it. Let's push them until they act," he said on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" morning show.
"Do you know the amount of money the person mining the gold gets?", he queried, believing the surest approach to ending the illegal mining is when force is applied.
"If you tell such a person to stop, he won't. There is no advice you can give to stop such a person. Let's apply the force. Let's apply it; until that is done, let's forget it," he emphasized.
