The 7th Parliament of the Fourth Republic will be dissolved later today at midnight.
The expiration comes after a constitutionally mandated four-year term.
The dissolution of the 7th parliament at midnight will be followed by the inauguration of the 8th Parliament of the 4th Republic, which will in turn elect a new Speaker and two deputies.
Both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) with equal seats in the House have so far failed to attain a clear majority in Parliament after the December 7, election.
Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo has commended the 7th parliament for staying busy in the four-year term describing it as the busiest and most productive in the history of Ghana.
The current parliament that expires in less than 48 hours has to its credit the passage of some 15 pieces of legislative instruments, President Akufo-Addo said.
“In many ways, you have helped transform Ghana and you have every right collectively to be proud of the work you’ve done” he said.
