The New Patriotic Party (NPP) government has fulfilled 90 per cent of the 2016 manifesto promises it made in the local government sector.
According to the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD), Hajia Alima Mahama, most of the promises have been fully kept while others were being seen through.
The Minister who gave that self-rating at the Meet the Press series held in Accra Wednesday, August 26, said the government had religiously released all statutory funds due local assemblies, thereby boosting their capacity to undertake development projects.
For Instance, she said GH¢2.9 billion had been released as District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) to the metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (MMDAs) between 2017 and the first quarter of 2020.
Additionally, she said the implementation of improved revenue mobilisation regimes and the building of the human resource capacity of the local assemblies had empowered the MMDAs to rake in GH¢1.47 billion in internally generated funds (IGF).
The Minister also said a total of 4,688 projects have been implemented by the MMDAs between 2017 and 2020 with 2,682 of them completed while 1,999 were at various stages of completion.
