The country was thrown into a state of ecstasy following President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s address to the nation, Sunday, which announced some interventions by the government as it strives to limit and stop the importation of Coronavirus, contain its spread, provide adequate care for the sick and limit the impact of the virus on social and economic life.
Among others, the president mentioned that the government will absorb the water bills for all Ghanaians for April, May and June; roll out a soft loan scheme up to a total of six hundred million cedis (GH¢600 million), which will have a one-year moratorium and two-year repayment period for micro, small and medium scale businesses.
An insurance package, he said “with an assured sum of three hundred and fifty thousand cedis (GH¢350,000) for each health personnel and allied professional at the forefront of the fight, has been put in place, with a daily allowance of one hundred and fifty cedis (GH¢150) being paid to contact tracers.”
A tax holiday for all health workers, for the next three months was also announced while disclosing that “all frontline health workers will receive an additional allowance of fifty per cent (50%) of their basic salary per month, i.e April, May, and June. The March allowance will be paid alongside that of April.”
The wild jubilation however became political as some social media users turned the conversation into an election game changer. They suggested that the president has scored political points, slimming former president John Mahama’s chance of bringing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) back to power.

At least, we have a Government who is a listener, who always listening to his people and do what his people wants. Not "Me Tie Obiaa Government" we use to have in the previous years. Let's applaud the ruling government for their actions and measures taken to prevent the deadly disease (COVID19)
This is a total unprofessional of peace fm. If your writer and proofreader is not qualified, just reshuffle. How can a reliable news firm like peace fm be publishing unauthentic news? Did Mahama say all that the article contains? Your heading is contrasting the body of the piece. Stop contradicting things in this country. Or hire qualified bloggers to handle your online stuffs for you. Why Ghana?
This is not political gimmick, the basic necessity to fight this covid 19 is water. The man was spot on , he doesn’t want the ordinary Ghanaian to say couldn’t pay my water bill during this hard time . We need water badly more than ever. Those who will down play it do so at their peril. Aside all politics, the old man is actually managing the situation very well . Now Ghana is chasing coronavirus unlike other countries, doing contacts tracing to get people tested before showing symptoms, this is a proactive measure. He is really taking a cue from what has happened in other countries especially the developed ones.
There is much created impression from some Media Houses, particularly the Peace FM Media writers and presenters of twisting the messages and making propaganda of the sayings of the former president John Dramani Mahama. Ghanaians have known and experinced the former president as a pragmatic and visionary leader. We experinced his visionary leadership related to much grassroots development in Ghana. The leadership of Mahama and the formation of COVID 19 team to help combat the spreading of the virus was fantastic and applauded by Ghanaians. The Peace FM writer of this article, "Mahama boycotting the 2020 elections" is unphilosophical and tastless story teller which is unattractive to your readers. In this period of the golbalen pandemic of COVID 19, dont play politics with your writings and publications, specially with the presidential cadidate of the umbrella family. Ghanaians are today grateful to the down to earth works of the former president, a friend of the grass roots and the needy. Time will tell about the great Mahama.
IN FACT, SOME OF US ARE VERY DISAPPOINTED IN PEACE FM ONLINE AND PEACE FM AS WHOLE FOR TWISTING FACT IN THIS COUNTRY OF OURS. WAS IT NOT MAHAMA WHO CALLED ON THE GORVENMENT TO GRANT THE CITIZENRY TARIFF RELIEF ? SO, IF THE GORVENMENT GRANTED PARTIAL RELIEF TO THE COUNTRY, WHY WOULD MAHAMA TURNED AROUND AND MADE THAT KIND OF STATEMENT ? THIS KIND OF PROPAGANDA YOU DO FOR THE GOVERNING NPP IS SHAMEFUL TO SAY THE LEAST. NOTE THAT GHANAIAN ARE DISCERNING. IN ANY CASE, WHAT ARE THEY AFRAID OF WHEN THEY WANT TO CHANGE THE REGISTER AT ALL COST WHEN THEY KNOW THEY HAVE WORKED TO THE ADMIRATION OF GHANAIAN ? IT IS BECAUSE THEY CANNOT WIN ELECTION WITH THE CURRENT REGISTER.
Sadly we are happy for the these interventions but what of the poor seller by the road side and all the self employed tradesmen and women what have you put in place for them, as a nation we have only two hundred ventilators in hospital and we are happy , God see us through
Nana Akufo Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana. Nya nkwa daa. You done all. God will continue to bless and direct your paths. Hallelujah and Amen
Nothing has been good in your life , even free shs ndc say its bad, foctories is bad, dams is bad , everything is bad. what is good for odinary Ghanainas please tell us some of those.
So spot on with your analysis ,@Wallace. He did not even say the cover is for utility bills as some wrongly believe. He said water bills and here is the case water has not been running at some places for the past 2weeks! So those that would be receiving USD1,200 and additional USD500 per child what should they do? I guess they should lie down for their president to walk on as "red carpet",abi? When this thing passes they will just collect back and even take more from the citizens in the form of increased tariffs and taxes! Our utility bills are already among some of the highest in the world even though our salaries are among the lowest in the world. Already they are using our Heritage fund which should not have been touched. Loans are being contracted here and there and yet for just 3 months worth of water bills we are excited! We should be ashamed of ourselves. That is why it was so easy to enslave the black man!
it is good to enjoy free water bill. i would add my water bill to pay for the electricity bill. it is good to have a great government who cares. caring is sharing. free water would always be better than lights offs (saloons, banks, hospitals, morgues) can not work whilst the leadership take bribe all over the country. At least, we are being given some which included free education, reduction in electricity bill and now some free water bill for 3 months. it is relief indeed. go NANA.
