Abronye DC, Bono Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has labeled the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) demonstration against the Electoral Commission of Ghana as unconstitutional and so challenged them to prove otherwise.
According to the NPP Regional Chairman, the NDC has no legal backing to kick against the compilation of new voters’ register.
Though noting that it a right of the NDC to hit the streets in protest according to the 1992 constitution, article 21, he however believed their actions against the EC will not produce any fruitful result.
“According to the 1992 constitution permits the EC to compile new register same as NDC also have the right to demonstrate but cannot stop the EC from doing its mandate unless their demonstration fall in line with the 1992 constitution…I can say in authority that NDC’s demonstration cannot be found anywhere in the 1992 constitution, therefore has no legal backing.
“If they are able to prove where it is written in the 1992 constitution, I will support them if not then my argument still remains the same…the voter register needs to be changed”, he said.
